To make pieces like the jasper and cherts shown I used a combination of diamond hones, diamond files and sandpaper. I first select a stone with a shape that inspires me to make something from it. In other words if the stone is solid and won't break as i work it i let the shape inspire me. Of course i could make a round shape out of a square piece but why not save time and make a triangular piece out of a piece that is already that shape. I have lots of stones in many shapes so tell me ehat you want and i can show those shapes to you or lets get together and you can look through the many specimens i have until you find something that inspires you. So for the equipment you will want to use:
Diamond embedded hones come in 3 grits. Coarse, medium and fine. They are $8 each. Diamond embedded files come in many shapes but i recommend at least a flat, round, half round and a tapered flat. They are $2 each. Sandpaper can be purchased in packs through me or you can get it from your local hardware store or paint section at auto parts stores or boat shops or Home Depot. I sell packs of 10 sheets for $6 and they are available in a pack of mixed grits with coarse (60 or 80), medium (180 to 240), fine (400 to 600) and very fine (1000 to 1200). Or in packs of 10 sheets of each individual grit, for example 10 sheets of 60 or 10 sheets of 180 and so on. Don't forget to do your work with water to keep dust down or wear a good dust mask. Water makes the tools last longer, too.
So, get busy already... Buy some rocks or collect your own but get your hones and files now, i don't know how long I'll have them available... Contact me by text at 831-466-6017.
