On September 27, 2026, student volunteers from The WSU Chapter of Engineers in Action assembled to construct and install tomato trellises for the Pullman Community Garden at Koppel Farms. This project has been in the works since the start of the year, from taking measurements of existing designs on-site, to planning and procuring the materials, and to assembly day.

To everyone that was present and contributed to any step of the engineering process from start to finish, thank you for helping us make an impact with your teamwork, insight, ideas, skills and commitment, and a big thanks to the Pullman Community Garden at Koppel Farms for granting us this hands-on opportunity!

Help us assemble tomato trellises for Koppel Farms in Pullman!

We'll be there from 10 am to 4 pm (maybe earlier than 4 pm if done earlier), and the location is named like so in Google Maps.
Volunteers will assist with assembling planks with screws and brushing it all down with oil, so no construction experience required!

That’s a wrap on our 2026 Bolivia WASH project!

After 8 weeks in Altamira, we’re heading home with a completed water system and so many memories we’ll never forget. This last week we finished pressure testing, completed the tapstands, superchlorinated the system, and got to celebrate by drinking water from the system together for the first time. It was such a cool moment to see everything we’ve worked on finally come together.

A huge thank you to the Altamira community for welcoming us with open arms and working alongside us every step of the way. It was also such a great experience getting to work alongside the CU Boulder Engineers In Action Chapter and Engineers in Action (EIA) Okanagan teams throughout the summer, we learned so much from all of you. We also want to thank the Engineers in Action and FIEA staff, our incredible masons, and our WASH Corps mentors for all of the guidance, support, and encouragement they gave us from day one.

We’re so grateful to have been part of this project and can’t wait to bring what we’ve learned back to WSU. This definitely won’t be our last Engineers in Action project!

Today we did something a little different! Before the tank is installed, community members and travelers got to paint it and add their handprint. It was a fun way to celebrate all the people who have helped make this project possible. Can’t wait to see this tank up on the stand soon!

Week 5 in Altamira!

We’ve officially moved past most of the excavation and backfilling and have started working on the more technical parts of the water system. This week we’ve been assembling the manifold, excavating tap stands, installing valve boxes, and preparing household connections that will eventually bring water directly to families in the community.

The tank will also be going up soon, and we’re excited to paint it with community members before it’s installed on the tank stand.

This week we also had the chance to visit the local school and give presentations to the students. We talked about our project, what goes into building a water system, and answered lots of questions about life in the United States and Canada.

It’s hard to believe we’re already five weeks into construction. Seeing the system come together after weeks of digging trenches has been exciting, and we’re looking forward to making even more progress in the weeks ahead. Thank you to everyone in Altamira for all of the hard work, support, and hospitality that have made this project possible.
