This global event invites student teams to solve real-world aviation challenges, culminating in a competitive fly-off at the Tucson International Modelplex Park Association (TIMPA) in Tucson, AZ. Led by faculty mentors, our project manager coordinates multiple specialized teams to ensure rigorous progress and high-quality results at each phase of development. Guided by our chief engineer, sub-teams focus on key aspects of aircraft design and production, working together to bring BSMRAAU’s aerospace vision to life. অ্যাভিয়েশন অ্যান্ড অ্যারোস্পেস ইউনিভার্সিটি বাংলাদেশের (এএইউবি) ‘এয়ারবোর্ন ফিনিকস’ দল আন্তর্জাতিক ‘ডিজাইন বিল্ড ফ্লাই’ (ডিবিএফ) প্রতিযোগিতায় বিশ্বে ৩৪তম এবং এশিয়ায় চতুর্থ স্থান অর্জন করেছে। আমেরিকান ইনস্টিটিউট অব অ্যারোনটিকস অ্যান্ড অ্যাস্ট্রোনটিকস (এআইএএ) আয়োজিত এই প্রতিযোগিতায় ১৭৫টি দলের মধ্যে নকশা, নির্মাণ ও উড্ডয়ন—তিন ধাপ শেষে চূড়ান্ত ফল নির্ধারণ হয়।

দলটি যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের কানসাসে অনুষ্ঠিত চূড়ান্ত পর্বে চারটির মধ্যে তিনটি মিশন সফলভাবে সম্পন্ন করে। সীমিত সুযোগ-সুবিধা ও লজিস্টিক চ্যালেঞ্জের মধ্যেও শিক্ষার্থীদের এই সাফল্য দেশের জন্য গর্বের।

Historic Achievement by Aviation and Aerospace University, Bangladesh at World’s Largest Aerospace Competition.
We are immensely proud to announce that the AAUB DBF team, Airborne Phoenix, has secured 34th position out of 175 universities worldwide in AIAA Design-Build-Fly (DBF) Competition 2026, which is the largest aerospace Olympiad of the world. This is for the first time that a Bangladeshi University has positioned itself within the overall top 35 position among the aerospace universities in the world!
Held in Wichita, Kansas, United States from 16 - 19 April 2026, the 30th edition of the competition challenged participants to design, build, and fly aerospace-grade UAVs far beyond hobby level drones. This year’s mission requirements pushed the boundaries of engineering: teams had to design an aircraft as compact as possible while towing a large banner and simultaneously maximize payload capacity with strict constraints on wingspan and battery power.
Demonstrating exceptional engineering and reliability, our aircraft successfully completed four segments (technical inspection, ground mission, test flight, and payload mission) withstanding the formidable, tornado prone weather of Wichita. This event proudly marks the first time any Bangladeshi team has successfully flown an all-carbon fiber airframe on this global stage.
The journey to Wichita was a monumental challenge. To arrive at this competition, our team had to navigate complex logistics, overcome budget constraints, resolve stringent visa bond requirements, and manage travel that involved flying over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

A tribute to the man we trusted with our nine months of effort and countless sleepless nights. From our very first Zoom call, even from 8000 miles away, we felt we were in the right hands. Flying an experimental aircraft is not just about skill, it takes a deep understanding of the aircraft and its controls at its very core. Thank you Steve, for all the moments and the meaningful conversations we shared along the way. It always felt like you were truly a part of this team. Hope we meet again.
