The sustainable aviation fuel market is expected to hit $51.4 billion by 2032, up from $1.2 billion today, a 60% annual growth rate.

HEFA production dominates the industry, and North America leads in market share. The growth comes from more people flying and airlines committing to cut carbon emissions, and government policies are helping push things forward.

SAF is moving beyond small pilot programs as airlines are signing real contracts for fuel, regulations are getting clearer, and the facilities built to deliver consistent supply at scale are the ones winning business.

Proud to announce that Fuels has formed a strategic partnership with to develop facilities across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho that can convert agricultural waste into sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel.

The collaboration addresses the critical industry challenge of limited feedstock availability for clean fuels production. Through the BioVeritas Process™, agricultural residues like wheat straw, grass straw, and corn stover will be converted into intermediates compatible with existing HEFA refining infrastructure.

For years, cellulosic agricultural residues have remained underutilized despite their abundance. This partnership provides a proven pathway to transform materials that would otherwise be burned or decompose, into commercial jet fuel and diesel. It represents the kind of integrated, feedstock-to-fuel solution the industry needs to scale production beyond traditional feedstock sources.

The partnership creates a new waste-to-fuels supply chain in the Pacific Northwest, reducing reliance on fossil fuels while expanding domestic SAF production capacity. The expanding pipeline of sustainable aviation fuel production projects could triple production capacity by 2030, as the aviation industry works to build long-term supply resilience and meet decarbonization commitments.

The United States leads announced development, accounting for 40% of planned global capacity. As carriers expand SAF commitments and regulatory frameworks strengthen, the gap between announced capacity and operational production underscores the market requirement for facilities designed to deliver certified fuel at commercial scale.

NXTClean Fuels' Port Westward project is positioned to address this need with integrated feedstock supply and deep-water logistics access supporting Pacific Northwest and broader West Coast aviation demand.

Deep-water logistics access has become a strategic differentiator for large-scale sustainable aviation fuel production facilities serving both domestic and international markets.

The Columbia River provides direct maritime access to Pacific Coast aviation hubs and Asia-Pacific export markets. This positioning enables cost-effective feedstock imports from diverse regional sources while supporting efficient fuel distribution to West Coast carriers and international customers.

Port Westward's location on the Columbia River maritime channel positions the facility to receive feedstock by barge and vessel while delivering finished products directly to regional and international markets, supporting the facility's 50,000 barrels per day capacity.

Integrated domestic production capabilities are becoming increasingly central to aviation fuel supply chain planning as carriers expand sustainable aviation fuel commitments, and geopolitical factors add volatility to fossil fuel accessibility.

West Coast regional production capacity with deep-water logistics access, diverse feedstock capabilities, and proximity to major aviation hubs offers carriers supply chain advantages as SAF deployment scales.

NXTClean Fuels' Port Westward facility in Oregon combines Columbia River deep-water access with integrated feedstock supply and 50,000 barrels per day production capacity positioned to serve Pacific Northwest and West Coast aviation demand.

🚨REMINDER: SUPPORTIVE COMMENTS NEEDED TO SUPPORT CLEAN FUELS🚨

Last month, The Army Corps of Engineers released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for our flagship project in Oregon. After nearly 6 years of permitting, this should be our last public process for our final permit approval. It is a major regulatory achievement and clear indicator we're heading toward full approval in 2026.

NYC Deep Freeze Tests Renewable Diesel Supply

During one of the coldest periods in more than 60 years, city agencies and critical facilities continued operating without reported weather related fuel disruptions. Renewable diesel powered sanitation trucks, snow response vehicles, and other essential equipment through sustained sub freezing conditions, high demand, and regional energy pressure.

This is an important example for municipalities, fleet operators, and other large fuel users evaluating lower carbon alternatives. The discussion around renewable diesel is no longer just about emissions goals. It is also about whether the fuel can perform under real operating conditions without creating added complexity for operators or maintenance teams.

New York’s experience this winter showed that renewable diesel can work within existing infrastructure, support essential services, and meet the performance standards expected of conventional fuel, even in severe weather.

The global market for sustainable aviation fuel continues to evolve — and the voluntary market is becoming an increasingly important driver of growth.

A recent piece from Stillwater Associates highlights how corporate buyers and airlines are using voluntary SAF programs to help accelerate demand beyond regulatory mandates. That incremental demand can play a meaningful role in supporting new production capacity and scaling the industry.

As momentum builds across both regulated and voluntary markets, coordinated action between producers, airlines, and corporate partners will be key to meeting long-term aviation decarbonization goals.
