It’s 1930s! Imagine celebrating “early dismissal”… after 10 hours of repacking sugar.
That was reality for many workers in the early 1900s, when 10–16 hour shifts were common and work often stretched from sunrise to sunset.
In the Philippines, the passage of Commonwealth Act No. 444 in 1939 established the 8-hour workday, a milestone that helped shape the labor standards we know today.
This Labor Day, we recognize the generations of workers whose struggles secured the rights we now enjoy.
