We were honored to welcome Prof. Cristina Olaverri-Monreal as an invited keynote speaker at the 8th Edition of the Francophone Meetings on Transport and Mobility (RFTM 2026), co-organized by the IEEE ITSS Tunisia Section Chapter in Hammamet, Tunisia.

Prof. Olaverri-Monreal is a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Intelligent Transport Systems at Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria. She is a globally recognized leader in Intelligent Transportation Systems and currently serves as IEEE Division IX Director and a member of the IEEE Board of Directors. She also served as President of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (IEEE ITSS) for 2022–2023.

During RFTM 2026, she delivered an inspiring keynote entitled: “Merging Safety and Technological Innovation in Autonomous Vehicles.”
Her presentation highlighted the importance of balancing innovation, safety, human factors, trust, and system reliability when developing autonomous and connected mobility systems. Her participation greatly enriched the conference's scientific discussions and further strengthened international collaboration within the ITS community.

Yesterday marked the inaugural event of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society NSW Chapter.

The event featured very interesting presentations from Adriana Simona Mihăiță (University of Technology Sydney), Elnaz (Elli) Irannezhad (UNSW), Mao Shan (University of Sydney), Dr. Megan Sharkey (Transport for NSW, and Khaled Saleh (University of Newcastle), along with excellent student presentations from students supervised by Andres Fielbaum Adriana Simona Mihăiță Stewart Worrall Mao Shan Julie Stephany Berrio Perez Haiping Du (University of Wollongong) Mohsen Ramezani and more!

It was fantastic to see such strong interest in Intelligent Transportation Systems across NSW!

The IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society invites students, researchers, and professionals to participate in the ITSS Smart Mobility Data Challenge, a hands‑on hackathon held during ITSC 2026 in Naples.
This 4‑hour, data‑centric challenge focuses on real‑world urban mobility problems and is designed to be inclusive—no advanced programming skills required. Participation is open to ITSC attendees and limited to the first 100 registrants.
