On the 30th of July 2018, an agreement between Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS) and Barisal Biotechnology UK Ltd (BBUK) was signed for the establishment and operation of the Centre for Genomic Medicine (CGM) in presence of Mr. Benjamin Cutmore, the Head of Trade and Investment at the British High Commission, Dhaka. Prof. Azad Khan the president of BADAS and Mrs Athina Bogdani Das the Operations Director for BBUK signed the agreement respectively on behalf of the institutions.
Prof. Shahida Akhter, the Founding Director of CGM is leading the screening of neonates for the condition of congenital hypothyroidism in collaboration with Prof. Paul Dimitri from Sheffield Childrenâs Hospital NHS Trust, UK. CGMâs overall aim is to improve health in Bangladesh by developing training opportunities for scientific and clinical staff and programs in teaching, research and clinical care provision. The Centre for Genomic Medicine in Dhaka is aligned with the University of Sheffieldâs âthink globalâ internationalization initiative to develop transformational change in healthcare through multidisciplinary and multi-country partnerships.
Barisal Biotech is a life sciences company working closely with UK consortium of academics and industries with a focus on transferring UK healthcare, science know-how, products, and knowledge based services into developing countries and worldwide, with current focus on Bangladesh.
