On behalf of the 2,100 members of the Aerospace Medical Association, welcome as the first official chapter of the Aerospace Medical Association Student and Resident Organization (AMSRO)! It is so exciting to know the first AMSRO Chapter is from outside the United States and from a region of the world where aviation and space interest is growing so quickly.

The AMSRO was established within the Aerospace Medical Association (AsMA) to encourage young students and medical residents interested in aerospace medicine to share their interests and knowledge with each other in an effort to improve the health, safety, and performance of all who work within aviation and space operations. The AMSRO mission is to advance the science and art of Aviation and Space medicine among all students and practitioners of medicine throughout the world. By establishing the first AMSRO Chapter in Alexandria, Egypt, you are enhancing the awareness of Aerospace Medicine in the Middle East region of the world and encouraging aspiring Aerospace Medicine professionals to get involved as members of AsMA!

We at AsMA stand ready to support your chapter and members. Please encourage your members to get active in AsMA committees and activities. Share your knowledge and insight with us and help us continue to advance the practice of Aerospace Medicine forward.

Our VISION, MISSION, AND OBJECTIVES:
A. Vision: The international advocate for aviation, space, and environmental medicine
among students and residents.
B. Mission: To advance the science and art of aerospace and diving medicine among
undergraduate, graduate, medical, allied medical, and nursing students, as well as
among medical residents, throughout the world.
C. Definition: “aerospace medicine” is the multi-disciplinary
application of professional and scientific knowledge, training, and research to
promote and maintain the health, well-being, safety, and performance of those
involved in aerospace activities.
D. Objectives:
(1) Educate undergraduate, graduate, medical, allied medical, and nursing students, as
well as medical residents, about career opportunities in aerospace medicine-related
specialty fields
(a) by disseminating knowledge regarding practical experiences and career
opportunities in these areas. This includes, but is not limited to, research and
clinical opportunities in aerospace medicine, physiology, nursing, engineering
human factors and hyperbarics; and
(b) by establishing formal mentor-protégé relationships for Organization members
with recognized leaders in these specialty fields.
(2) Represent the unique interests and concerns of students and residents as an active
voice and participant in the functioning of the Aerospace Medical Association.
(3) Foster cooperative interaction with other medical and scientific communities
concerned with developments and progress in the science of aerospace medicine and
its allied specialties.
(4) Continuously increase membership, accessibility and participation internationally
by
(a) active recruiting of potential members; and
(b) creating and maintaining affordable options for student and resident
involvement.

On behalf of the Aerospace Medicine Student and Resident Organization (AMSRO), I would like to welcome you to the official page of the AMSRO chapter located at Alexandria University in Egypt. Earlier this year, I sent a message to the entire AMSRO membership suggesting the idea of establishing chapters within AMSRO. Ahmed Baraka, who is a student at Alexandria University, expressed an interest in starting a chapter at his university. Together, we went through a lengthy process to establish an AMSRO chapter at Alexandria University. After the process was completed, the chapter was officially established in April, 2019. This chapter is the first AMSRO chapter to be located at a university. The establishment of this chapter will give students at Alexandria University the opportunity to meet and collaborate on ideas and activities related to aerospace medicine. In addition, the founding of this chapter can set the pace for the establishment of many more chapters within AMSRO. It is exciting to see AMSRO grow into an international organization!

On behalf of the Aerospace Medicine Student and Resident Organization’s International Outreach Committee- welcome! Congratulations on joining the recognized international advocate for aviation, space, and environmental medicine among students and residents.

Our mission (and now, your mission as well) is to advance the science and art of Aerospace and Space medicine among all students and practitioners of medicine throughout the world. This includes university and medical students, as well as physicians whether still in training or those that are fully independent. This also includes nurses, technicians, and any other allied medical or health specialty. As you grow your local chapter through meetings, lectures, facilitated discussions, and connections with other Aerospace Medicine professionals in your region, we hope to provide assistance with educational material, ideas, and contacts.
