On Freedom Day in South Africa, we celebrate our democracy, but we are also reminded of our duty to keep building a better future for all.

Through our value of Responsibility, we own our impact not only in our workplace but also in our communities, working together to create enduring value for all.

As Gold Fields' only South African operation, South Deep works with its parent company to support the goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

We prioritise energy resilience and cost-effective reduction in emissions while maintaining operational efficiency and business sustainability. Our 50MW Khanyisa solar plant was completed in August 2022, reducing the mine’s carbon footprint by around 110,000 tonnes of CO2/year, and contributing to Gold Fields’ long-term commitment to Net Zero.

We all have a role to play in the energy transition. Decarbonisation is the right thing to do, and we want to be a part of the solution.

South Deep proudly supported the annual Bekkersdal Easter Soccer Tournament, hosted at the Congo grounds in Bekkersdal, where eight local teams took part. After an exciting showdown, Bekkersdal Super 11 emerged as the champions!

To support our host communities, South Deep donated soccer kits to the finalists, along with medals for the top two teams.

We continue to invest in youth development and make a meaningful contribution towards the social and infrastructural development and upliftment of all communities impacted by our mining operations. Through our value of Collaboration, we are helping to build stronger, more connected communities, on and off the field.

The South Deep Mine, through the South Deep Education and Community trusts, opened the Iziko Hub in Westonaria to help small businesses and non-profit organisations in our community grow.

Many local businesses struggle to get financing, mentoring or reach markets. The Iziko Hub changes that. It gives them the office space for training, mentorship and support to grow.

South Deep funded the renovations of the Iziko Hub and donated 20 computers, enhancing community access to the internet and improving business management capabilities.

We work together to prioritise the health and well-being of our people and communities.

At South Deep, our goal is to achieve zero harm in eliminating all fatalities and serious injuries at our operation, while at the same time showing care for the health and well-being of our employees.

We offer health and well-being screenings, information, access to treatment and support to ensure our people are healthy and safe.

We helped to establish Thusanang Clinic and Pilani Clinic to offer primary health care to our host communities and labour sending areas.

Health is not a privilege; it is a right.

Gold Fields has released its 2025 suite of annual reports.

The reports provide a detailed view of our performance for the year ended 31 December 2025, covering our operations, financial results and sustainability progress across our global portfolio.

This year also marks the introduction of our first standalone Sustainability Report and our first Tax Transparency Report, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and responsible business practices.

This World Tuberculosis Day, we held a wellness day programme for our employees to raise awareness about TB and its effects on our health. TB is a contagious and serious bacterial infection, especially when left untreated.

As part of our Culture of Care and Accountability, we are committed to ensuring we put the health and safety of our people first. At South Deep, we prioritise raising awareness about how to prevent and treat TB, as well as provide screening services to help early detection and stop the spread.

Together, we can beat TB and keep our communities safe!
