About the fully inclusive course:-

It is generally accepted that a Glider Pilot is trained to the same standard of that of a power pilot becomes in essence a far better pilot as they have developed more skill during an equal number of quality type training hours. There are many instances of commercial airliners crash landing or effectively landing off base after multiple engine failures with few

or no injuries or fatalities, the common denominator seemed to be that all their captains were glider pilots as well. With this in mind Airplay Instructors are all highly qualified and current Glider Pilots, the Chief Instructor being an avid competition glider pilot himself with over 35 years of private, commercial and sport flying experience. The course offered is intended to ultimately make the student a Private Pilot and prepare them for a career in aviation by taking a slightly longer route but more cost effective one. At the end of the course if all optional courses are selected you will have achieved 4 Licence types. At this time you should be ready and we would like to think far better prepared than your PPL counterpart for your Private Pilots License, this will be completed at an associate Part 61 Training establishment. Step 1 – Touring Motor Glider License. (TMGPL/GPL)
All candidates will be required to become members of the Soaring Society of South Africa, while it is not legally necessary for this as the TMG License can be issued under Part 62 of the National Pilots License system, we at Airplay insist that this membership be taken as a large part of your training will be done with engine off in soaring mode teaching you how to be a Glider Pilot. During the training you will also achieve a GPL (Glider Pilots Licence) and if you selected the Full GPL package you will receive training in a pure glider as well. One on One preflight, postflight and classroom sessions are provided to ensure the highest level of knowledge and skill transfer from instructor to student. Step 2 – Conversion of Part 68 TMGPL to Part 62 TMGPL
This transition is completed during the training so at the end of the course you will have a TMGPL issued under the National Pilots Licensing system so that you can easily make the transition to LSA. Step 3 – Conversion to LSA (Light Sport Aircraft)
At the stage of completion of your NPL-TMGPL we provide if option is selected a conversion to LSA so you may enjoy flying the Light Sport Aircraft Type such as Sling, VANS RV12, Samba, Lambada and a host of very popular aircraft in this category. Step 4 – Preparation and transition to PPL
At the end of step 3 you will be transferred to our associate PPL training institution where you will receive your final few Hours in large GA type Aircraft and complete the Instrument Training part of the Syllabus, on completion of this you will be a fully fledged Private Pilot with the same skills as your peers plus vastly added Gliding skills, it’s simple to see the benefit of this route.
