Clinical trials tell us whether a treatment works. But what happens once that treatment is being used in everyday healthcare?

That's where real-world evidence comes in. Using information from health records, patient registries and wearable devices, researchers can better understand how treatments perform across different populations and care settings over time.

Around the world, regulators are increasingly using real-world evidence alongside clinical trial data to help inform decisions about new treatments. Together, they provide a more complete picture of how medicines perform in real life.

TASK's connections to healthcare networks in South Africa and the Netherlands put us in a strong position to support this kind of research.

How does a new medicine prove it's safe before anyone can prescribe it?

Before a new treatment can be tested in large groups of patients, it is first studied in a small number of volunteers. This is a Phase I clinical trial.

Researchers assess how the medicine behaves in the body, determine a safe dose, and monitor for side effects. These findings determine whether it can move to the next stage of testing. Without Phase I research, no new treatment would reach the people who need it.

TASK conducts early-phase research at our fully-fledged Phase I unit in Cape Town - an accredited, 24-bed inpatient facility purpose-built for this kind of work. Our experienced clinical and nursing team provides round-the-clock monitoring, delivering the safety oversight and data quality that early-phase trials demand.

It's this combination of infrastructure and expertise that allows us to move promising treatments safely and efficiently through their first steps toward patients.

Interested in partnering with us for your next Phase I study? Let's talk.
