Every year in August, South Africa marks Women’s Month. We pay tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women.

This year we celebrate with the theme “Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights for an Equal Future”. The concept of Generation Equality is a global campaign and links South Africa to global efforts to achieve gender equality by 2030. Happy

AMD offers its congratulations and support to Ms Thandi Modise on her appointment as the new Minister of Defence and Military Veterans. We look forward to working with the new leadership to continue to build the capabilities and innovation within the defence sector for a prosperous future.

Many thanks to Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula for her honourable service over the last decade and extends her best wishes for the future. We appreciate the former Minister’s leadership, stability and effective partnerships as part of her contribution to strengthening the industry’s value to the economy.

AMD MOURNS THE PASSING OF MINISTER JACKSON MTHEMBU

The South African Aerospace Maritime Defence Industry Association (AMD) is deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Minister Jackson Mthembu who was the Minister in the Presidency of South Africa and also served as the Chairperson of the National Conventional Arms Control Committee (NCACC).

His passing is a great loss not only to the South African Defence Industry (SADI) community but to our beautiful country as a whole.

On behalf of the entire SADI the AMD Board, joins the country, in extending its heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
