SAWEA’s Interim CEO, Titania Stefanus-Zicke, engaged with Eskom Green yesterday, reaffirming the importance of sustained collaboration in advancing South Africa’s energy transition.

As the country works to strengthen energy security while accelerating the integration of renewable energy, alignment across stakeholders remains critical. Engagements of this nature create space for practical dialogue – enabling greater coordination across industry, policy, and implementation.

Progress across the sector continues to point to the potential for scaled deployment, supported by evolving policy direction, growing investment interest, and an increasing focus on system resilience.

We look forward to the developments ahead, and their role in strengthening South Africa’s energy mix and advancing long-term energy security.

Windaba: A Proud Initiative Driving South Africa’s Wind-Energy Future

Windaba stands as more than a conference; it is a flagship initiative of the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA), built on the Association’s long-standing commitment to advancing the wind sector and shaping a just, inclusive and sustainable energy future for the country.

As the leading voice for South Africa’s wind industry, SAWEA represents the interests of members across the entire value chain, championing a sector that delivers both clean power and meaningful socio-economic impact.

Windaba is rooted in SAWEA’s vision:
To be the catalyst for a wind sector that drives socio-economic development while responding to South Africa’s evolving energy needs.

Through this mandate, SAWEA positions Windaba as a platform that:
- Drives robust energy advocacy, pushing for ambitious, consistent policy and unlocking South Africa’s world-class wind resources.
- Promotes excellent practice in localisation, socio-economic development, and transformation across the industry.
- Recognises operational excellence, celebrating the achievements of wind projects nationwide.
- Provides market intelligence for investors entering or expanding within South Africa’s wind industry.
- Amplifies the sector’s socio-economic contributions, especially to rural communities, women, and youth.
- Advances renewable energy as a least-cost, climate-aligned solution for South Africa’s development agenda.
- Strengthens regional collaboration, supporting wind and renewable investment across Africa.

Every dialogue, every exhibition hall, every roundtable and every partnership forged at Windaba is grounded in SAWEA’s mission to build a wind sector that delivers real impact, real transformation, and real opportunity.

Windaba exists because SAWEA exists, and together, they continue powering South Africa’s path toward a resilient, equitable and low-carbon future.

Happy New Year from the Windaba Team!

As we welcome 2026, we celebrate a year of renewed purpose, partnership, and progress.

The strides made last year reaffirm our collective commitment to advancing South Africa’s clean-energy transition and fostering a renewable-energy ecosystem built on collaboration, innovation, and inclusion.

In 2026, we look forward to deepening these conversations, building on the momentum, and amplifying the voices that are driving Africa’s sustainable energy future. Together, we’ll continue turning shared vision into lasting impact, one wind farm, one partnership, and one breakthrough at a time.

Here’s to a year of action, alignment, and acceleration, where every idea becomes implementation, and every initiative fuels transformation.

From all of us at Windaba, we wish our partners, sponsors, delegates, and the entire renewable-energy community a prosperous and purpose-driven 2026.

OEM Market Leader Award: Windaba Conference & Exhibition 2025

This week, we honoured Goldwind Africa, the recipient of the OEM Market Leader Award, an organisation that had firmly established itself as a cornerstone of South Africa’s wind-energy sector.

With over 300 MW operational and 1.6 GW under construction, including the landmark Overberg project, Goldwind Africa held 50% of the private wind market and 27% of the national market.

Through long-term investment, local job creation, strong Mpumalanga presence, and the launch of its Solution Factory, the organisation demonstrated an unmatched commitment to innovation, localisation, and South Africa’s just energy transition.

Their impact echoed across the value chain, proving that when local talent, global expertise, and long-term vision converge, the industry moves forward with purpose and power.

A fitting celebration of an OEM steering the future of wind energy.

Youth, Research & Renewable Energy Leadership

On Day 3 of the Windaba Conference & Exhibition, SAWEA’s Social Development Programme Coordinator, Tshiamo Nare, spoke to Cape TV and unpacked the heart and future of WindAc Africa.

Tshiamo reminded us that WindAc Africa is far more than an academic conference.
It is South Africa’s leading renewable-energy research platform, bringing together students, scholars, policymakers, and industry professionals to explore how wind energy can drive Africa’s sustainable energy future.

At its core, WindAc connects research with real-world solutions, giving emerging voices the space to share their work, gain industry exposure, and learn from experts shaping the continent’s energy transition.

She also shared the exciting vision for expansion, growing WindAc into a platform that reaches high school learners, TVET students, young graduates, and youth who may never have imagined a career in renewable energy. Initiatives like Adopt-a-Learner are already opening doors, inspiring young people by showing them renewable energy in action.

WindAc is building a future-ready workforce and ensuring that the just energy transition is not just technical, but inclusive, youth-centred, and locally powered.

Exceptional Service Provider Award
Windaba Conference & Exhibition 2025

This week, we celebrated TNEI Africa, the recipient of the Exceptional Service Provider Award, a team whose contribution to South Africa’s wind industry went far beyond service delivery.

They embodied the quiet excellence that keeps turbines spinning and projects on track.
Since 2016, TNEI Africa has supported over 80 renewable-energy projects, including 21 wind farms, helping more than 1,000 MW of capacity reach commercial operation. Their leadership in grid-code compliance, technical advisory, regulatory guidance, and local capacity building consistently raised the bar for the region.

Their work proved that in a sector driven by wind, it is outstanding service that truly delivers the power.

A well-deserved recognition for a team that strengthened the backbone of South Africa’s clean-energy transition.

Windaba 2025 | Build-Up Day Magic

On 21 October, the Cape Town International Convention Centre transformed into a living blueprint of ambition. Before the crowds, before the keynotes, before the deals and dialogues, there was the quiet, electric hum of creation.

Exhibition stands rose from empty floors like structures of possibility. Forklifts moved with choreography. Designers fine-tuned lighting. Technicians tested screens. Branding teams pressed the final decals into place.

Every panel, every bolt, every cable carried the heartbeat of a sector gearing up to showcase its innovation.

This is the part of Windaba few get to witness, the story behind the spectacle.
The moment when the industry rolls up its sleeves and builds the stage where partnerships are born, insights are shared, and South Africa’s clean-energy future takes centre stage.

The build-up is where anticipation meets purpose… where the vision of Break the Gridlock, Wire for Growth becomes tangible.

And as the halls came alive on the 21st, one thing was clear:
Windaba 2025 was ready to deliver an unforgettable experience.

Safety Net Award Windaba Conference & Exhibition 2025

Continuing our tradition of honouring the outstanding winners from the October Windaba Conference & Exhibition, this week’s spotlight reflected on a leader who turned safety from a policy into a personal promise.

We celebrated Vestas, the 2025 recipient of the Safety Net Award, an organisation that proved that safeguarding workers is not an operational task, but a culture anchored in care.

Vestas distinguished itself through exceptional health and safety performance:

• A 68% reduction in injury rates
• Zero electrical injuries
• Thousands of safety checks completed across operations

Through innovative leadership programmes, cutting-edge digital safety tools, and internationally certified H&S systems, Vestas demonstrated how a safety-first ethos protects not only projects, but people, ensuring every worker returned home to their families, the true return on investment.

A powerful reminder that excellence in renewable energy begins with protecting the hands that power the transition.
