Moving from ambition to implementation means building and connecting more wind power projects.

Congratulations to EDF Power Solutions, winner of the Implementing Watt Matters: Power Award at the SAWEA Awards held during the recent Windaba 2026 gala dinner.

EDF Power Solutions receives the Implementing Watt Matters: Power Award in recognition of delivering the 700 MW Koruson cluster, which reached commercial operation in 2026. The achievement reflects EDF Power Solutions’ ability to bring multiple large-scale wind projects through development and delivery to commercial operation, contributing materially to South Africa’s generation capacity and energy transition.

We also congratulate runners-up Enel Green Power SA and Red Cap Energy.

Congratulations to Johnson Aguado Wind, winner of the Local Supplier Award (Wind Value Chain) at the 2026 SAWEA Awards.

Johnson Aguado Wind (JAW) receives the Local Supplier Award for demonstrating exceptional local capability in the wind energy value chain. Through the successful installation of 57 wind turbines at the 330 MW Impofu Wind Farm, JAW delivered complex heavy-lifting operations at significant scale, demonstrating technical expertise, reliability and operational excellence.

What does an 18-year-old inventor, an entrepreneur from Mpumalanga and an engineering student from rural Limpopo have in common?

They are all finding their place in South Africa’s growing renewable energy industry.

At WindAc Africa 2026, held alongside Windaba in Cape Town, we met young people who are already asking important questions and finding creative answers.

Take Damian Lambert, a matric learner who spent nearly a year developing a bladeless wind-energy harvester. Or Zelda Monana, who is building a business around the safe disposal of electronic waste, including solar panels. Then there’s Mukelo Baloyi, whose interest in engineering is driven by the opportunities renewable energy could create for young people back home in Limpopo.

These are the stories that remind us why WindAc matters.

South Africa needs more than wind turbines. It needs engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs and young people who can see themselves building careers in this industry.

At the , we recognise outstanding female leaders who have made a significant contribution to the South African wind energy sector through leadership, mentorship, professional excellence and industry influence.

Congratulations to Zoë Lincoln of TNEI Africa and Laura James, winners of the Watt-a-Woman Leadership Award at the 2026 SAWEA Awards.

With over 18 years of experience, Zoë has played a pivotal role in advancing grid integration for wind and other renewable technologies, contributing to grid code development, network planning and hundreds of renewable energy projects. Through Laura's leadership of SAWEA working groups, contribution to the Management Development Programme for Women in Renewable Energy and mentorship of emerging professionals, she has helped create pathways for women’s advancement and nurture future industry leaders.

We also congratulate runner-up Jo-Anne Thomas of Savannah Environmental.

A big congratulations to Akeelah Kallis and Ilhaan Francis (Grade 11s), who took first place in the Adopt-a-Learner project presentation competition at WindAc 2026!

Sponsored by the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA), the competition saw three shortlisted teams present their ideas to a panel of judges.

Akeelah and Ilhaan claimed the top spot with their project, “Integrating Wind Technologies in Urban Areas”, which stood out for its accuracy, innovation and supporting evidence. Windaba
