You don’t simply install new pistons and hope for the best.

The cylinder bore must first be machined to an exact size using a cylinder boring machine. This removes wear, scoring and imperfections while preparing the block for oversized pistons and final honing.

It’s one of the most important stages in the rebuilding process and one that directly affects engine performance, oil consumption, and longevity.

Precision matters long before the engine starts for the first time.

Here, Oom Oskar is line drilling an engine block after repair work was completed.

The purpose of the process is to make sure the crankshaft bearing tunnels are perfectly aligned and machined to specification again.
