P.E. Region Eskom Expo for Young Scientists

P.E. Region Eskom Expo for Young Scientists Official Eskom Expo for Young Scientists Nelson Mandela Bay page, celebrating young scientists, innovation, STEM education and research in the region.

The 2026 Eskom Expo Regional Science Fairs would not have been possible without an incredible network of people working together across South Africa.

To our young scientists, judges, teachers, parents and guardians, Regional Science Fair committees, volunteers, mentors, schools, host institutions, partners and sponsors, thank you.

Every project displayed, question asked, judging session completed and award presented was made possible through your collective commitment to creating opportunities for young people in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation.

Most importantly, thank you to our title sponsor, Eskom, for continuing to invest in the development of South Africa’s young scientists.

Together, you made the 2026 Regional Science Fair season possible.

And that’s a wrap on the 2026 Eskom Expo Regional Science Fairs!

After weeks of incredible research, innovation and scientific discovery across South Africa, our Regional Science Fair season has officially come to an end.

A huge thank you to every young scientist, teacher, parent, judge, volunteer, Regional Science Fair committee member, partner and sponsor who contributed to making this year’s events possible.

But the Eskom Expo journey continues. Selections for the Eskom Expo International Science Fair (ISF) are currently underway. Some regions announced selections at their Regional Science Fairs, while others are still finalising their selections.

Please be patient. Final ISF selections will be announced from 10 September 2026 on our social media platforms.

Outstanding research and innovation were recognised at the Eskom Expo Regional Science Fair, where hundreds of young scientists from the Nelson Mandela Bay area showcased innovative projects and competed for bursaries, medals, special awards and the opportunity to advance to the Eskom Expo International Science Fair.

Hosted at the Nelson Mandela University’s Missionvale Sport Center on 31 July 2026, the Regional Science Fair saw two outstanding young scientists awarded prestigious Rhodes University Faculty of Science bursaries, each valued at R75,000, covering the first year of any degree within the Faculty of Science at Rhodes University. The bursaries were presented to Liam Blignault from Framesby High School and Eryne Rondganger from Alexander Road High School in recognition of their exceptional research achievements.

The fair featured 198 research projects, including group projects, presented by 238 learners in Grades 4 to 12 and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students NC(V) Level 2-4. Participants advanced to the Regional Science Fair after taking part in a range of Eskom Expo activities throughout the year, including workshops and compulsory District Expos, where they received valuable guidance and feedback from judges, mentors and STEMI professionals.

The judges are hard at work at the 2026 Eskom Expo Port Elizabeth Regional Science Fair, carefully evaluating the outstanding research projects presented by our talented young scientists.

Every interview is an opportunity for learners to share their discoveries, explain their research journey and demonstrate their passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

We wish all our participants the very best as judging continues.
