⭐Good luck to our Hillside Comrades runners!⭐

This weekend, some of our Hillside team will be taking on the incredible challenge of the Comrades Marathon, an epic ±86km journey.
For a few, it’s become a familiar road, with some running their 16th Comrades (an amazing milestone!). For others, it’s their very first time tackling this iconic race.

🤩Some of our Reduction Team members recently visited Izicabangele Day Care Centre in Gingindlovu, where they installed and painted a new jungle gym to refresh the play area. The work helped create a brighter, more functional space for the children.⭐

As part of the visit, the team also shared snack packs with both the children and staff.
Team members described the experience as meaningful and appreciated the opportunity to contribute in a practical way to the centre.💛

“My journey at Hillside started with a willingness to learn and a belief that I could grow. When I joined, I had just a matric certificate, but I was determined to make the most of every opportunity. Through Hillside’s study assistance program, I was able to further my education, earning two degrees and a diploma. That support truly changed the course of my career and opened doors I had never imagined.

Over the years, I’ve grown from an operator to a supervisor, and now into a specialist role. Each step has been shaped by hard work, continuous learning, and an environment that invests in its people. Looking back over three decades, I can honestly say this has been a dream realised. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities, the growth, and the support I’ve received along the way.

My story reflects a culture where potential is recognised and developed, and where long service is built on trust, learning and pride. I’m proud to be part of Hillside’s story and even prouder of how Hillside has been part of mine.”💛

Bruno Zanette’s story at South32 is about more than time, it’s about growth, teamwork and commitment.

Starting in 1995 as a mechanical fitter, Bruno built his career through curiosity, discipline and pride in doing the job right. Over the years, he’s taken on roles from maintenance controller to mobile supervisor, continually expanding his impact across the business.

🤩A defining highlight? Being part of the team that commissioned and started up the smelter, proof that success is always a collective effort.

Guided by values of accountability, collaboration and integrity, Bruno continues to contribute to Maintenance South, supported by his family and driven by purpose.

Over the years, Vincent has seen positive changes within the business, including increased opportunities for employees and meaningful support for education and community development. He has also contributed to initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and sustainability, helping strengthen the organisation for the future.

🌟Employee Spotlight: Senzo “Fox” Dlamini🌟
Senzo Dlamini’s story is one of steady dedication, strong values, and pride in a job well done. Known as Fox to his colleagues, he has spent 35 years with the business and currently works as a Mechanical Maintainer in Maintenance South.

He began his journey in 1990 as an apprentice fitter, quickly realising that the artisan path was where his passion lay. Over the years, Senzo worked across Bayside’s potrooms and Rodding Plant before moving to Hillside in 2009, where he joined the Casthouse team. Through every change, his commitment to his craft has remained constant.🔥

💛Senzo takes pride in executing complex mechanical work safely and efficiently. For him, success is not only about performance, but about making sure everyone goes home safe and well every day.

Some of his best memories come from the people, the friendships built through shared experiences like family days and sports events. These moments created bonds that lasted far beyond the workplace.

A devoted husband of 27 years and father of three, Senzo is guided by his faith and grounded in family. Outside of work, he enjoys maintaining his home and tending to his garden, a reflection of the care and discipline he brings to everything he does.
