⭐Hillside team named South32 CEO Safety Guarantee Champions⭐
Congratulations to our Team 2 - Potline 2 and Reduction Services for being named South32’s Annual CEO Safety Guarantee Champions.👏

The team challenged a long-standing way of working and successfully eliminated a high-risk task in the potrooms. They redesigned the work method so that all electrical and pneumatic connections between the anode beam raising machine and its lifting hooks can now be made at ground level, eliminating the need to work at heights.💛

This improvement, driven by collaboration between frontline employees, operations, engineering and maintenance, has removed working-at-heights and manual-handling risks, making the workplace safer for everyone.🫶

A fantastic example of living our Safety Guarantee by speaking up, challenging the status quo and working together to make safety better every day.
Well done team! 👏

🌸 Women's Month Spotlight | Meet Kefilwe

Say hello to Kefilwe Mamatela, a Production Technician in the Rodding Shop at Hillside's Carbon Plant, who joined the team in May last year and has been making the most of every opportunity since.

For Kefilwe, Hillside is more than just a workplace. 💬 "It feels like home because it's a place where I feel safe, appreciated and supported every day. That sense of belonging has made my experience truly special."

A qualified Electrician with experience in both the mining and construction industries, Kefilwe was eager to challenge herself in a new environment and gain exposure to production operations. Her passion for learning and personal growth continues to drive her journey.

When she's on shift, you'll find her taking part in safety discussions, inspections and operational activities, all while learning from colleagues who inspire her to keep growing every day.

Her advice to other women? 💬 "Believe in yourself, trust your instincts, never stop learning and keep investing in your personal growth. You are capable of achieving more than you think."

This Women's Month, we're celebrating women like Kefilwe who are embracing new challenges, growing their skills and inspiring those around them through their determination and positive attitude.

💜 Celebrating the incredible women of Hillside! 💜

Women wear many hats every day, from leaders and professionals to caregivers, mentors, and friends. This week, we welcomed our first group of Hillside ladies for a special Women's Day celebration, encouraging them to put on one of the most important hats of all: the self-care hat.

The day was filled with great speakers, vibrant pop-up shops, a beautiful lunch, delicious treats, free giveaways, and special goodies. Most importantly, it was an opportunity to pause, connect, and celebrate the remarkable women who make a difference every day at our operation.

🫶This Women's Month, we're proud to celebrate Nthovhe Makhado, a PC&I Engineer in Reduction at Hillside, whose career journey is a testament to growth, resilience and embracing new opportunities.

Since joining Hillside as a graduate in 2015, Nthovhe has built an impressive career across multiple areas of the business, progressing through roles in Treatment & Services, Casthouse and Reduction.🤩

Today, Nthovhe plays a key role in optimising plant performance, balancing technical expertise, strategic thinking and collaboration. For Nthovhe, one of the most rewarding aspects of the role is working with people across all levels of the business, continuously learning and sharing knowledge.

Nthovhe's advice to women aspiring to grow their careers is simple yet powerful: "Don't wait until you feel 100% ready to start. You can figure it out as you go along, that's one of our superpowers."💪

Inspired by strong leaders who have demonstrated resilience and determination, Nthovhe continues to challenge herself while encouraging others to do the same.

This Women's Month, we celebrate Nthovhe and all the women whose talent, dedication and leadership help shape a brighter future every day.⭐
