AOW: Investing in African Energy is happening this week in Cape Town. Investing in African Energy unites industry leaders to develop policy, share discoveries, secure investment, and shape Africa’s energy future.

Our COO, Nick Mitchell, chaired the private round table, which included stakeholders from government, industry, and regulators to explore the critical role of natural gas in diversifying South Africa’s energy mix, enhancing energy security, and supporting sustainable economic growth.

As South Africa strives to reduce its dependency on coal and expand its renewable energy capacity, natural gas emerges as a pivotal transitional fuel that offers flexibility and reliability in electricity generation. This round table discussion will delve into various facets of natural gas utilisation, including exploration and production, infrastructure development, gas-to-industry, regulatory frameworks, environmental considerations, and integrating gas-fired power plants into the national grid.

The dialogue will focus on understanding natural gas's potential to complement renewable energy sources, mitigate intermittency challenges, and support the transition towards a low-carbon future.

We will explore opportunities for investment, collaboration, and innovation while addressing key challenges such as pricing mechanisms, infrastructure development constraints, and environmental sustainability.
