Women's Month is also a chance to look ahead. Harrisinah Theka, our Economic Development Manager, believes the renewable energy sector's role in empowering women goes beyond representation — it's about continuing to invest in women-owned enterprises and development programmes that help women build real, lasting economic independence. It's a principle that guides much of the work we support.

This Women's Month, we're celebrating the women shaping our community — like Richardene Frolick, owner of Nonhles Treats in De Aar.

What started as a lockdown hobby has grown into a thriving local bakery, and Richardene is now part of our three-year enterprise development programme, working toward the space, skills and support to grow even further. Here's to the women building something of their own.

Behind every leader is someone who shaped the way they lead. For Harrisinah Theka, that person is our Economic Development Director, Hlengiwe Radebe — someone who understands both sides of development work: the programmes we implement and the communities they're meant to serve.

It's a reminder that good leadership is often passed down, community by community, mentor by mentor. This Women's Month, we're grateful for the women guiding the next generation of leaders in our sector.

This Women's Day, we're celebrating the women who keep De Aar Solar Power running smoothly and the women in our surrounding community who inspire us every day.

From the plant floor to the classroom, women continue to break new ground in industries that weren't always built with them in mind — and we're grateful to have so many strong, capable women as part of our story here in De Aar.

Happy Women's Day to all the women who lead, uplift and inspire!

This Women's Month, we're celebrating the women who lead by showing up. For Harrisinah Theka, our Economic Development Manager, leadership is about being present in the communities we serve, listening first and acting second.

"A good leader should always lead by example," she says, and for her that means engaging directly with stakeholders and understanding what communities actually need before trying to meet it.

Behind every child who walks into a classroom with confidence, there's someone who helped build that foundation.

ECD practitioners are often the first educators a child will ever know — and the care, patience, and dedication they bring to that role matters more than words can say.

This Mandela Month, we're reminded that change doesn't only happen on a grand scale. It happens in classrooms, in community centres, and in the quiet moments when a child learns something new for the very first time.

We're proud to support the women in our community who show up for children every single day — and even prouder to be investing in their growth through our ECD training programme.

Mandela Day is a reminder that meaningful change begins when communities come together.

This year, under the theme "It's still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity", we reflect on the importance of supporting one another and creating opportunities that help people thrive.

Through our ongoing community development programmes, we remain committed to initiatives that support food security, education and community wellbeing.

Every positive action, no matter how small, can help build a stronger tomorrow.

This week we hear from Gailene Williams from Liggie Huis — a dedicated ECD practitioner with nine years of experience who believes that every child deserves the best possible start in life.

For Gailene, joining our ECD practitioner training programme is an investment in both herself and the children she serves.

"I feel grateful because it gives me a chance to learn new skills and improve myself. It also opens doors for my future — better job opportunities and more confidence in what I can do."

What drives her? The magic of watching children discover new things. "We give them the foundation of their whole life of learning," she says.

She hopes the programme will bring fresh ideas, new strategies, and the tools to support her learners' development through play — so she can continue giving children the best start to their education.

At 40 years old, Sara April from Blommeland Kleutersorg is proof that it's never too late to chase a dream. With five months in early childhood education, she has joined our ECD practitioner training programme with purpose and passion.

"It means a lot to me — my dream has finally come true."

For Sara, the greatest joy in teaching is watching children grow and learn. She believes this training will improve her approach in the classroom and open bigger doors for her future in ECD.
