Three very different source images. 128 hours of engraving. One wall nearly six metres wide. 🔥
These were the images I had to work with: a factory photograph, an old photograph of a tower, and a painted illustration of a watermill.
The challenge was turning that mix of detail, texture and contrast into artwork for a 5.8 m × 2.6 m laser-engraved feature wall.
Completed in 2024, the installation consisted of 36 MDF panels, with engraving across 22 of them. I converted the artwork into vectors and divided it into sections for my xTool S1 40W with its conveyor.
And the whole project was created in my small office—one panel at a time!
In January 2025, the wall featured in Woodshop News, in A.J. Hamler’s article “One size fits all?”
He described it as “one of the best examples of versatility I’ve ever seen.”
Seeing the finished installation—and then having it recognised like that—was a proud moment for Kat se Blad.
