One lesson I've learned during this holiday...
Never be afraid to stand up and speak for yourself, especially if you come from a humble family where no one holds influential positions and you don't have powerful connections.
Have the confidence and courage to introduce yourself, explain your situation, and ask for an opportunity. Don't let fear or shyness stop you. Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation to open a door.
This holiday, I had the opportunity to meet and speak with the Human Resources Manager at ZESCO in Kalulushi while applying for industrial attachment. Although I wasn't offered the opportunity, I walked from one office to another, making inquiries and trying my best.
Did everything work out? No.
Did I give up? Also no.
The experience taught me that rejection is not the end. Every "no" brings you one step closer to the right "yes." The important thing is to keep trying, keep learning, and keep believing in yourself.
Life is tough, but remember this: many people in positions of authority are human too. If you approach them respectfully and genuinely, some will listen. Not every conversation will change your life, but you'll never know unless you have the courage to speak.
So, to every student and young person chasing an opportunity: don't let your background define your future. Let your determination, confidence, and persistence speak louder than your circumstances.
