An African parent would have solved this problem in 2 seconds! "Unruly Toddler Forces Airline to Cancel Flight After Refusing to Stay Seated and Wear Seatbelt"

A Porter Airlines flight was forced to return to the terminal and was ultimately canceled after a toddler reportedly refused to stay seated and wear their seatbelt before takeoff.

Flight PD444 was preparing to depart Victoria International Airport (YYJ) for Toronto on Thursday, August 6, when cabin crew noticed the young child standing in their seat.

According to Porter Airlines, both the accompanying parent and crew members attempted to get the child seated and secured, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

With the aircraft unable to depart in what the airline described as an “unsafe condition,” the crew returned to the terminal to remove the child and parent.

The resulting delay meant the airline had to bridge the aircraft, deplane passengers, retrieve baggage, refile flight plans and complete additional paperwork. By the time those procedures were finished, Victoria International Airport's 12:30 a.m. runway closure had passed.

The flight was canceled, leaving passengers to wait until the following evening to continue their journey.

Porter Airlines apologized to passengers affected by the disruption and confirmed that PD444 eventually departed YYJ on Friday, August 7, at approximately 10:49 p.m., arriving in Toronto at 6:16 a.m. the following morning.

The family involved has not been publicly identified.

For the crew, there was no option to simply take off and deal with the situation later. The aircraft could not leave the ground while the child was standing and refusing to be secured.

What started with one toddler refusing to stay seated ultimately resulted in an entire flight being canceled and passengers having their travel plans disrupted for almost 24 hours.
