AI is moving fast in the UAE. But here’s the interesting part - The AI boom isn’t only creating demand for smarter software and GPUs. It’s also creating demand for the physical infrastructure needed to keep all that technology running.

According to Khaleej Times, the UAE is seeing strong demand for cloud services, agentic AI and GPU capacity, driven in part by government-led AI adoption. And as AI workloads become more powerful, data centres are getting bigger and more complex.

Du's planned AI Park in Dubai is designed to reach up to 1GW of capacity, with liquid-cooled hyperscale data centres being developed in phases.

But why does this matter?

Because thousands of high-performance GPUs generate a lot of heat which means cooling, power, connectivity and backup infrastructure become just as important as the computing hardware itself.

Du is already using direct-to-chip liquid cooling for AI infrastructure, including a 5.1MW AI supercluster supporting around 4,000 GPUs. A newer AI supercluster using NVIDIA B300 GPUs has more than 13MW of operational capacity.

And the ecosystem is much bigger than the data centre itself. Large-scale AI infrastructure requires everything from:

- Power distribution & electrical systems
- Advanced cooling solutions
- Cables & connectivity infrastructure
- Backup power systems
- Specialist engineering equipment
- Industrial & facility maintenance products

Khazna Data Centers’s planned 5GW UAE-US AI Campus in Abu Dhabi further highlights just how large this infrastructure ecosystem is becoming.

So what's the bigger picture?

The future of AI will not be built with software alone. It will also be built with power, cooling, electrical systems, industrial equipment and thousands of physical components working behind the scenes.

And that creates a growing ecosystem of opportunities for suppliers and businesses supporting the UAE’s expanding digital infrastructure.

What if the next generation of cybersecurity doesn’t just depend on stronger encryption but on the laws of quantum physics?

The UAE is exploring exactly that.

At the Technology Innovation Institute, Dr Sana Amairi-Pyka is leading research into quantum communications, including the Abu Dhabi Quantum Optical Ground Station project.

One of the key technologies being developed is Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), which uses the properties of light to generate secure encryption keys. If someone attempts to intercept the quantum signals, the disturbance can be detected creating a new approach to protecting sensitive information.

TII has already tested QKD through a pilot network connecting Hub71 and ADGM Academy, with potential applications including secure data transfers, video calls and financial communications.

The UAE is also working with Space42 to develop a space-to-ground quantum communications network, with the goal of extending secure connections beyond the limitations of terrestrial fibre networks.

As quantum computing continues to develop, technologies such as QKD and post-quantum cryptography (PQC) could become increasingly important for protecting sensitive business and government data.

The UAE’s investment in this field highlights an important shift: the future of secure digital infrastructure may extend from data centres and fibre networks all the way into space.
