A seedling planted in the soil can change not only nature, but also the future.

With this belief, under the One World Karadeniz Foundation, we carried out mangrove restoration initiatives in Mozambique and Senegal.

In Mozambique, together with the Municipality of Maputo, we planted 2,000 mangrove seedlings, expanding the KARMOL & Maputo Municipality Forest to over 3 hectares and bringing the total number of seedlings planted since 2025 to 7,000.

In Senegal, we supported the restoration of 2 hectares of mangrove ecosystem by planting 20,000 mangrove propagules with 130 volunteers, alongside local partners and communities.

By restoring mangrove ecosystems, we are helping protect biodiversity, strengthen coastal resilience, and create lasting value for local communities.

Because a better future starts with a world we build together. One World for All.

Growing where land meets the sea, mangroves are among the most important carbon sinks. They capture and store significant amounts of carbon, particularly in their soils, while protecting coastlines and supporting biodiversity.

Restoring mangroves is about more than planting trees. It is about strengthening nature’s own defenses and building a more resilient future.

For years, our work through the One World Foundation across diverse geographies has continued to touch lives through education, women’s empowerment, community support, and environmental responsibility.

Guided by our core purpose, “One World. One Shared Future,” we bring impactful initiatives to life around the globe, including Future Grandmasters.

Following the launch of Future Grandmasters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire last April, we recently brought together the top three young chess players from the tournament with Ediz Gürel at Karmarine.

Around the chessboard, every move represented more than the pursuit of victory. It reflected confidence, determination, and the opportunities that can transform a young person’s future.

Because we know that true impact goes far beyond generating electricity. Guided by this vision, we will continue making new moves toward a brighter future.

The chessboard reminds us of a simple truth: every move has the power to shape the future.

With that belief in mind, we gathered at Karmarine Shipyard for the second chapter of our Future Grandmasters initiative, bringing together Turkish Grandmaster Ediz Gürel and the three young players who secured the top three positions in our Future Grandmasters tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.

The young players gathered around the chessboard were playing for much more than victory. Every move they made was a move toward tomorrow. A future built on opportunity, determination, and potential.

This is the vision behind Checkmate for Tomorrow.

As Future Grandmasters continues to grow, we are excited to bring the project to new destinations and meet more talented young people whose lives can be transformed through chess.

Because every journey toward the future begins with a single move.
