Through long-term maintenance, turnarounds and construction (MTAC) contracts, Kent supports clients in keeping complex energy infrastructure safe, reliable and productive. Late life assets bring a different set of challenges, but many are still being managed through operating models designed for growth.

In his latest thought leadership article, Dave Blackburn explores why that needs to change. As portfolios contract and assets age, operators are having to rethink how technical authority and operational support are structured to best align with the asset’s remaining life.

There is a spectrum of approaches available, from targeted specialist support through to more integrated operating models, with the right answer often depending on where the asset is heading, not simply how it is managed today.

From supporting some of the country’s largest and most complex energy developments to helping keep assets operating safely and reliably, our teams have built deep local knowledge and capability across Kazakhstan’s energy sector.

That’s why our team was at Kazakhstan Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference last week, talking to clients and stakeholders about what comes next for their projects and operations. From engineering and project delivery through to commissioning, operations and maintenance, and decommissioning, we support projects across the full asset lifecycle, combining global expertise with local knowledge and capability.

On the opening day, we had the privilege of hosting Yerlan Akbarov, Vice Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and H.E. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, at our stand as part of their official visit to KIOGE.

As KIOGE marked its 30th anniversary this year, Kent was also recognised for our long-standing participation and contribution to the event and Kazakhstan’s energy sector.

Q3 gave our teams around the world plenty of reasons to step away from the day-to-day, spend time together and celebrate the culture, communities and people that make Kent what it is.

🪷India
Our teams in Vadodara and Mumbai marked India’s Independence Day under the theme “Unity in Diversity – Celebrating One India." From the National Anthem and Unity Parade to traditional dress, games and plenty of team spirit, the celebration brought together the many cultures and identities represented across our India teams. Colleagues also celebrated Onam, sharing in the traditions of the harvest festival together.

🎉Middle East
In the UAE, colleagues marked Onam with food, games and traditional touches, while our team in Saudi Arabia came together for the 96th Saudi National Day, celebrating the Kingdom’s culture, traditions and achievements through the Saudi Ardah, traditional activities and time together as a team.

☀️ Americas
Our teams in Calgary and Houston made time to connect through summer socials and community initiatives. In Houston, our team supported a food bank with items and time volunteering, while our Baytown and Deer Park teams supported B.P. Hopper Primary through a Back-to-School Donation Drive, contributing essential items for students starting the new school year. In Colombia, the team combined teamwork and healthy eating in a team building session, where the team learned how to prepare a tropical salad.

🎄APAC
Our Perth office celebrated Christmas in July, with colleagues coming together for an afternoon of food, drinks and 'festive' cheer, giving all a chance to relax, catch up and enjoy time together outside the usual working day.

🎓Europe
Our teams also spent time connecting with the next generation of talent at university careers fairs, meeting students, graduates and aspiring engineers interested in careers across energy, engineering and STEM. These conversations are an important part of introducing young people to the opportunities available across our industry and helping build the talent pipeline for the future.

🌐Global
Across Kent, Inclusion Week created space for conversations around how we work, think and connect as a diverse global team. Sessions explored navigating difference, mental wellbeing, critical thinking in the age of AI and what fairness means in the workplace. Kent's approach to inclusion and diversity has been recognised with a gold TIDEmark award for talent inclusion and diversity, the highest level that can be awarded.

A HAZOP is only as strong as the perspectives brought into the room.

In his latest thought leadership article, Clinton Smith explores an often-overlooked challenge in revalidation HAZOPs: the difference between experience gained through designing systems and experience gained through operating them.

Operational teams bring invaluable knowledge of how a plant has behaved, while design-focused engineers bring a different lens, shaped by understanding original design intent. In combining both perspectives, studies will be more robust and more likely identify missed hazards and avoid unnecessary recommendations.
