In the first week of the current school year, started sending smart messages to interact with motorists and parents when driving in school zones through smart signs capable of detecting & displaying the driving speed and sending direct friendly messages to the drivers through expressive emoticons such as WhatsApp Emojis. These facial expressions reflect drivers' psychological mindset, coupled with tips relating to the driving speed as the vehicle passes by the devices & sensors installed near school zones. Phase I of the project was tentatively commissioned in five areas in the first week of the school year, including Muhaisnah 1, Al Mazhar, Al Wasl, Al Garhoud and Al Safa. Other areas will be covered in Phase II as per engineering standards based on the type of the road, the number of schools therein, and the number of speeding tickets issued in those areas. The smart signs are devices equipped with digital screens capable of capturing and showing the driving speed as the vehicle passes through a school's zone, along with Emojis that intelligently depict the driver's mental state while driving

The Dubai police's new radar detector is a dumpster in disguise

The garbage-bin-shaped machine can see how fast you're driving from 150 kilometers (93 miles) away, a Dubai police police official told The Khaleej Times, an English-language UAE newspaper.

The contraption can also detect whether motorists are wearing their seatbelts or illegally using their phones while driving, the official said.

But the clever disguise is likely soon be recognized by Dubai drivers for what it is. "Beware of the new radar in Alquds street by Dubai airport behind the trees," tweeted one motorist alongside a photo of the radar detector:

Multi-purpose police camera on Dubai roads: Detects eight types of offences and distinguishes cars and trucks

Dubai Police have developed an advanced multi-purpose road camera that can detect eight offences at the same time, including hard shoulder violators, speedsters and failure to use the seat belt while driving.

The camera, which was successfully tested on Emirates Road last year, has 70,000 laser lines and is the first to distinguish between cars and heavy trucks on roads.

“We have benefited from the technology in fixed road cameras to develop this sophisticated mobile camera,” Dubai Traffic Police Chief Colonel Saif Al Mazroui said, quoted by the Arabic language daily ‘Emarat Al Youm’.

“This camera has 70,000 laser lines so it can monitor all cars and lanes with high accuracy…I think it will achieve more deterrence on roads.”

He said the camera, which has been partly deployed on the emirate’s roads, can detect eight offences, including hard shoulder violations, speeding, sudden change of lanes, failure to use seat belts and reckless driving.

“One of the most important features of this camera is that it can distinguish between cars and trucks which commit offences on the road,” he said, adding that the new cameras have recorded nearly 30,000 offences since they were deployed.
