The UAE Space Agency and New York University Abu Dhabi signed a sponsorship agreement to support the research project “Studies of the Martian Atmosphere and Surface with the Emirates Mars Mission,” in support of the objectives of the extended Emirates Mars Mission (Hope Probe) announced earlier this year. The agreement will enable greater use of the mission’s scientific data while contributing to the development of national research expertise and enhancing the UAE’s role in advancing planetary science.

Expanding on the scientific legacy of the Emirates Mission to Mars, the Hope Probe's EMUS instrument has successfully captured the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS and captured detailed, high-resolution images across multiple wavelengths. The observations clearly showed the fragmentation of volatile materials as the comet approached the sun in October 2025.

At that time, the comet could not be detected from Earth due to its close alignment with the Sun. However, Mars-orbiting missions, including the Hope Probe, offered a rare observational vantage point, allowing scientists to examine this transient object under exceptional circumstances.

As only the third object of its kind ever recorded in the history of astronomy, 3I/ATLAS marks a valuable addition to global scientific knowledge and further underscores the UAE’s expanding role in advancing space science and exploration.
