Today is World Water Day, therefore let's all work together to preserve ground water and manage it’s sustainably. Ground water no matter where we live in the world is one of the most important freshwater resources in the world which is stored underground.
If you don't want to do it for you, then do it for our future generation (YOUR CHILDREN). 1 in 3 people globally do not have access to safe drinking water - UNICEF, WHO
Here are a few things you can do on the project and at home to help protect this valuable resource:
1. Stop washing your car after every trip, use the Petrol stations car washing areas as they use recycled water. Remember it is not required to look new every trip, windows and lights only. Washing a car at
home or at work will use between 40 and 140 gallons of water
2. Limit water use both on project and at home, i.e. use washing up water for plants, cleaning outside patios
3. Avoid over pumping for domestic use i.e. gardens.
4. Avoid harmful (oils, chemicals)spills into ground water and clean up straight away to prevent contamination of ground water.
5. Grow or select low water plants and don't use pesticides
Nearly 1.8 billion people in seventeen countries, or a quarter of the world's population, appear to be veering towards a water crisis- with the potential of severe shortages in the next few years.
Of the 17 nations, 3 are in the Middle East (Saudi Araba, UAE, Qatar) and North Africa where all are 3rd world counties (Ethiopia, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, India, Somalia, Mozambique, Uganda, United Republic of
Tanzania, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), The Republic of Chad)based World Resources Institute's Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas. Two countries- and pakistan -are in Asia. The remaining hotspots are San Marino in Europe, Botswana in Africa and Turkmenistan in Central Asia.
