***Qualifications for Electrical Engineers Position***
• Educational Requirements
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or a closely related field such as electronics, control, power systems) is commonly required.
• For more senior engineering or specialized roles, a bachelor’s degree + several years of experience is often required.
• Equivalent qualifications are sometimes accepted (e.g. Electromechanical, Mechatronic, Communication) in certain regulatory certifications.
****Experience*****
• Depending on the role, you might need several years of practical experience in the UAE or internationally. For example, for “Senior Electrical Engineer” certification by Abu Dhabi Quality & Conformity Council (QCC), 7 years (or 5 years UAE experience) is required.
• For an “Assistant Engineer” certification: 5 years (or 2 years UAE experience) is required.
• Professional Certification / License
• In Abu Dhabi, for electrical works, there’s a certificate of conformity (or similar) issued by the QCC. For senior or supervising roles, this is a formal requirement.
• For some roles, “local authority engineer registration” is preferred.
• For electrical installation work, engineers may also need to follow HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) training (e.g. IOSH) as required by ADDC (Abu Dhabi Distribution Company).
• Attestation / Equivalency
• If your degree is from outside the UAE, you usually need to have your educational certificates attested and possibly get an equivalency certificate from the UAE Ministry of Education.
• Many job descriptions explicitly ask for attested / recognized engineering degrees.
• Regulatory / Industry Standards Knowledge
• Familiarity with local electrical codes is often necessary (for design, installation, or consulting roles).
• Understanding international standards is also important (IEC, IEEE, etc.), especially for project-based or design engineering roles.
• Language & Other Skills
• English proficiency is generally required (for most multinational or engineering firms).
• Good technical skills (circuit design, power systems, control, etc.) + soft skills like communication and project management are very useful.
******Additional Context & Practical Advice******
• Certification through QCC / ADDC (Abu Dhabi):
For engineers working on “electrical installation” sites (wiring, construction), the QCC has specific certification pathways. For instance: the Assistant Engineer Certificate requires specific education + experience.
• Working for Big Engineering Firms:
Large consultancies like AECOM require a bachelor’s degree plus professional registration / license.
• Local Universities:
There are good universities in UAE offering electrical engineering degrees. For example, UOWD (University of Wollongong in Dubai) offers a 4-year Electrical & Electronics Engineering Bachelor’s degree.
• Quality Framework / Job Levels:
According to Abu Dhabi’s QCC, a “Senior Electrical Engineer” role expects a bachelor’s degree or equivalent + significant experience.
• Safety Training:
Depending on the job (especially installation), safety training like IOSH Managing Safety may be mandatory.
Summary
To be an electrical engineer in the UAE, you generally need:
• A recognized Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or a closely related field)
• Several years of relevant experience (especially for more senior roles)
• Certification / licensing (especially for roles involving electrical installation) via local bodies like QCC
• Your credentials attested or made equivalent by UAE authorities, if they were earned abroad
• Good technical, regulatory, and safety knowledge
***Other Requirements***
• Willingness to work on-site/office as needed
• Strong understanding of safety standards and construction practices
• Ability to coordinate with architects, contractors, and project managers
• Willing to relocate in Umm Al Quwain-UAE
• Half day work only
