A New Layer of History

The Mosaic of Tirana is a significant part of Albania’s cultural heritage, offering a glimpse into the country’s ancient past. Situated near the city center, the site faces challenges stemming from urban development pressures and the need for both preservation and revitalization.

The proposed project aims to transform this historical site into an inviting space for tourists, researchers, and history enthusiasts. The intervention introduces a flexible itinerary, allowing visitors to either explore the mosaic directly or engage with historical narratives through curated information. The journey begins at the entrance square, where the ticket office and surrounding elements are designed to reflect both the vernacular character of the area and symbolic references within the site.

The intervention is defined by three key components: the entrance ticket office, the protective shelter, and a new two-story building accommodating laboratories, exhibition spaces, and administrative offices. The architectural concept draws inspiration from the Mosaic of Tirana itself, particularly the ancient “flower of life” symbol found on-site. This motif is reinterpreted in the design, with protective "petals" forming a shelter over the mosaic.
On the ground floor, essential public functions are arranged, including the main exhibition space and supporting technical areas in the northeast. A radial staircase leads to the second level, where office spaces and an open laboratory are positioned. The monolithic structure not only houses these functions but also serves as a counterweight for the protective shelter, minimizing its visual impact. The shelter itself is constructed with a lightweight metal framework, wrapped in a fabric mesh veil that filters light and creates a dynamic interplay of shadows across the site.

Beyond physical preservation, the project integrates digital and interactive elements, such as a virtual tour and technological enhancements, to enrich visitors’ engagement with the site’s historical layers. This approach ensures that the Mosaic of Tirana is not only safeguarded but also reimagined as an accessible and immersive cultural landmark.

Slates: A Coastal Architectural Statement in Saranda

Nestled along the stunning Ionian coast in the vibrant city of Saranda, our latest architectural project seamlessly blends nature’s artistry with modern design. Inspired by the unique slate rock formations that define this region’s landscape, the building emerges as an organic extension of its surroundings, evoking the layered, rhythmic patterns of the local stone.

Designed as a harmonious fusion of residential and hospitality spaces, the structure maximizes its privileged coastal setting. Every unit—whether private residence or hotel suite—is oriented toward breathtaking panoramic views of the Ionian Sea, ensuring a deep connection between inhabitants and the natural beauty of the Albanian Riviera.

The architectural language of the project embraces the rugged yet elegant character of slate, reflected in the building’s materiality and form. A series of staggered terraces, textured facades, and natural stone elements establish a dialogue between the built environment and the coastal terrain. The interplay of light and shadow across these surfaces enhances the dynamic presence of the structure, mimicking the way sunlight dances on the rock formations of the region.

With "Slates", we sought to craft more than a building—it is an architectural tribute to Saranda’s geological heritage, an invitation to experience the Ionian coast through a lens of elegance, authenticity, and deep-rooted connection to place

Floating Floors

Located on the outskirts of Tirana, this residential project emerges within a chaotic and largely informal urban fabric. The surrounding context is a dense, irregular patchwork of unregulated structures, creating a dynamic yet fragmented environment. Rather than imposing order, our design embraces and interprets this informality, reflecting its shifting verticality in a layered, seemingly spontaneous architectural language.

The lower levels accommodate commercial spaces, activating the street and integrating the building into the neighborhood’s everyday life. Above, residential units rise in an irregular rhythm, wrapped in a gradient of red hues—an homage to the traditional red-tiled roofs of the surrounding villas. As the structure ascends, these tones gradually fade into soft whites, allowing the building to dissolve into the sky, creating a fluid transition between the built environment and the horizon.

This intervention is not about rigid formalism but rather about resonating with the organic, evolving nature of the area—blurring boundaries between “order and disorder”, spontaneity and contemporary expression.
