New versions of QEMU (v11 and onward) have eliminated support for running on 32-bit systems [https://ow.ly/mRwA50Z8naL], complicating the ability to execute OE/YP builds on such hosts. In response, the team will discontinue 32-bit uninative binaries, 32-bit eSDKs, and QEMU from 32-bit SDKs, while also limiting testing of 32-bit SDKs and supporting builds solely on 64-bit systems. The decision is based on the dwindling relevance of 32-bit systems and is expected to have minimal impact on users. Feedback is welcome from those affected.

This [https://lists.openembedded.org/g/openembedded-architecture/topic/119437109] email initiates a discussion on stable version upgrades in OpenEmbedded (OE), focusing on two main topics. Topic 1 addresses the use of stable branches, questioning whether patches should be backported and if human or robotic involvement is preferable for AUH (Automated Upgrade Helper) stable upgrades. The author favors human oversight in upgrades to uphold accountability. Topic 2 seeks to clarify the criteria for OE stable upgrades, highlighting a unique policy that allows only bug-fix upgrades, with exceptions permitted by maintainers. Proposed criteria for stable version upgrades include checking for upstream stable branches, obtaining maintainer confirmation, and analyzing historical data. The author invites feedback to reach a consensus.

This [https://ow.ly/eCPc50Z8n16] discussion focuses on the limitations of SPDX 3.0 SBOMs generated by OE-Core, particularly their lack of details regarding the build layers, versions, and metadata influencing software packages. Marta Rybczynska raises concerns that current SBOMs do not address vulnerabilities related to build metadata, like those affecting BitBake tools and fetchers. She argues for including the list of build layers and their respective versions in SBOMs, citing that this information is crucial for vulnerability management. Richard Purdie expresses concern that updating metadata would necessitate regenerating all SPDX files, complicating the reuse of SBOM state. The discussion highlights the need for better visibility and tracking of layers in vulnerability assessments.
