FLORESTANIA IM DRITTEN is a community art and environmental project in Vienna’s new neighborhood, VILLAGE IM DRITTEN.

The project invites you to take part in public workshops where plastic waste will be transformed into an immersive forest installation.

This summer we carried out a community art and environment project where we collectively grew a plastic tree together. Using techniques like heat-sculpting and injection-molding, we cared for this tree, Árbol Ceibo (Symbol of Interconnected Life), like caring for a rainforest on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Although we are city-people, we stand in solidarity with all forests because we are forest. We should never forget our home.

We are taking a stand with during COP30.

FLORESTANIA EXHIBITION OPENING - Part 2 🌿🌿🌿 We continued our evening into “Welcome to the Jungle” an exhibition tour by Mary Maggic, where we took a moment of silence for the beauty and wonder of our disappearing forests. Thank you all for sharing this collective moment of nurturing our inner landscapes ✨✨✨

We concluded our tour with a public screening of the Florestania documentary film, now available on our website, with interview by and original soundtrack by ⭐️

Our Florestania journey is finally coming to an end 🥲. To conclude this amazing adventure we would like to invite all of you to the closing event of our exhibition.
Choreographer and multi-disciplinary artist will guide us in a participatory performance inside the Plastic Forest Installation as we say thanks to the inner landscapes we have cultivated. May we continue to reforest our imaginations 🌿🌿🌿

The artistic practice of Karin Cheng, aka Kamehameharin, is shaped by the bicultural reality of her life and a fascination with in-between spaces, multi-layered perspectives, and transcultural narratives. Her journey through music, Tai Chi, and street dance has laid a deep foundation for her creative self-expression in various media. Her work focuses on empowerment strategies, using sound and embodied practice to facilitate reappropriation, reconnection, and transformative experiences.

EXHIBITION OPENING — Tuesday, September 16, 2025, 6:00 PM

FLORESTANIA IM DRITTEN is a participatory art and environmental project located in VILLAGE IM DRITTEN, a new urban district in Vienna developed by ARE.

In July and August, through a series of public workshops led by FANTOPLAST and Precious Plastic Vienna, plastic waste was transformed into a walk-in, poetic forest installation. Together with artist Mary Maggic, a space was created “to reflect on our relationship with waste and connect with our inner landscapes.”

In September, the forest installation created during the workshops will be presented as part of an exhibition at the DOCKS in the VILLAGE IM DRITTEN. Afterwards, the installation will be sold to raise funds for forest protection initiatives—both locally and globally. In this way, urban waste is transformed into new alliances for the planet.

This week have 20 palm leaves fabricated by arriving to our workshop space. Led by our artists-in-residence .xatan and we will be heat-sculpting these leaves to give them organic shapes inspired by the mighty Babassu Palm 🌴 Please stop by and hang out, invite friends, enjoy snacks and music, and help bring this jungle to life ✨✨✨
