How is the droplet actually detached when no current is flowing?

In conventional welding, the electric current literally blasts the droplet off the wire—which causes spatter.
With CMT, the current is almost completely shut off at the moment of short-circuit. Droplet detachment occurs purely mechanically through the backward movement of the wire and the surface tension of the weld pool. It is therefore a “current-free” and thus extremely gentle material transfer.

Where does the movement in CMT actually come from? 👀

In CMT, the welding wire is not just pushed by the wire feeder. Directly inside the CMT Drive, there is a highly advanced, decoupled servomotor.
This motor pulls the wire back in a high-frequency forward and backward motion exactly when the short circuit occurs. Maximum dynamics in the smallest space – for ultimate precision at the arc tip.
