We were curious about how h**p is coping with this unusual heatwave, so we visited the place where our material starts its journey: the h**p field. Specifically, the Hanfland Hanfprodukte h**p fields around St. Pölten, just 46 km from our production site.

Even with extremely low rainfall and no additional irrigation, the h**p fields were still looking lush green and only limited stress was observable. H**p can establish complete ground cover within just a few weeks, shading the soil and reducing water loss and it can develop a very long root system that can reach up to 2.5 m in depth, with taproots even deeper.

A little different from the previous season was that the male plants were almost completely dried up, as they started producing pollen already in the middle of June and all of it had already been released. Male plants drying up in the field is a normal phenomenon, but it usually happens a few weeks later.

The real outcome and performance will only be possible to assess after the harvest and we will try to compare it to other crops. We don’t want to spread extraordinary claims: under severe water and heat stress, h**p suffers too, but depending on the variety, it can outperform many other crops.

In a three-year European field study, reducing irrigation by 50% resulted in a 29.9% reduction in seed yield with a specific variety and this variety could be developed further to achieve greater heat resistance. So, as European summers get hotter, resilience is about understanding which crops can still perform well under increasingly imperfect conditions and still bring significant harvest quantities.

That matters beyond agriculture. This field is the beginning of our material supply chain. And if we want to build more with renewable resources, we also need to understand how reliably we can grow them under the climate conditions ahead. The lucky thing is that h**p seems to be among the better-performing ones.

From Austria to …. ?

When we launched H**pstatic back in 2022, we knew there were two main challenges in front of us:

1. The product.
2. The value chain.

As the second one is a key factor for scale, quality and long-term resilience, we couldn't focus solely on the first one and integrated both from the onset.

The building materials industry is characterised by regional value chains. Transportation costs, raw material availability, local expertise and logistics all play a role in long-term success.

This made us zoom out early.

Much earlier than originally planned.

Because one question kept coming back:

Can a technology be developed around local value chains with the potential to reach global relevance?

Which led us much further, much faster than we expected.

Having our sound absorbers showcased last year at the EU Pavilion at the World Expo in Osaka expanded our perspective on how far an idea can travel. It connected us with like-minded people on the other side of the world and opened discussions around regional value chains, healthy materials and future collaboration.

Every region has its own resources, challenges and opportunities. The common denominator is the know-how.

That is what we continue to build at H**pstatic. From Austria to the world.

By challenging biogenic material design, exploring new possibilities in sound absorption and soundproofing and expanding the know-how that enables regenerative materials to find new applications.

One sentence we keep hearing is:

"Wow, I have never seen something like this before."

For us, that is a reminder that there is still enormous room to rethink how natural materials are used in construction and to bring them into places where they otherwise would never be.

Stay tuned. There is more to come.

We participated in the first German Forum on H**pcrete Architecture organised by Niklas Fanelsa and Franziska Sorger from the TU München It was an event full of relevant discussions, exchanges and networking on the topic of h**pcrete, h**plime and the various applications of h**p-based construction materials. Amongst the panelists were pioneers, architects and European producers and farmers and one of the main topics was standardisation and scaling up.

The event also contained a student exhibition called H**plands where a range of various highly creative and innovative products and ideas were presented. And also a Dinner event for participants, where completely novel and diverse food made from h**p was served.

It was an honor to represent H**pstatic and participate in this event with so many talented like-minded young people who actually do care about what kind of materials should be used in the construction sector in the future.

We enjoyed the Bavarian friendliness and are happy to see a growing interest in biobased construction materials among the young creatives.

Plants in interiors are the ultimate feel-good technology.

These orchids are real. They grow in the air, without soil, using ambient humidity to sustain their growth. A Japanese masterpiece showing how living plants can be integrated into indoor spaces and create a real moment of awe.

At H**pstatic, we follow the plant-based approach: enabling natural materials for demanding interior environments where no compromise on aesthetics or function is acceptable.

To ensure natural comfort and coziness.
To support better indoor air quality.
To make toxic-free the easy choice.
To elevate safety for both people and planet.

The built and the natural environment do not have to collide.
If we simply embrace the beauty and intelligence of nature itself.

Happy New Year 2026 ✨

Let it be a prosperous one for more health in construction, higher safety for building inhabitants and greater care for the environment.

Buildings have a long lasting impact. Much longer than a single lifetime of human.

Let this year be about the impact that we can make to induce a positive change for decades and generations ahead.

What if we build nature-friendly? 🌿
Not as an exception ❌
Materials that store carbon and improve the health of both people and planet 💚
With nature as norm ✅
