We’re excited to share what we’ve been working on over the past two years as part of the ESA BIC programme.

Meet FLECS – Flexible Living Environment for Crew Support – a foldable private cabin for astronauts!

Designed for maximum efficiency, FLECS requires no permanent infrastructure, can be quickly deployed, and is easily stowed when not in use. Thanks to quick-release mechanisms, it can be seamlessly installed and redeployed in microgravity.

Inside, it offers everything needed for privacy and comfort: ventilation, lighting, storage, a work desk, and sleeping space. Its mass- and volume-optimized design ensures strength, sound insulation, and adaptability for both short- and long-duration missions.

Scalable and modular, FLECS can be reconfigured as a crew cabin, galley, or hygiene module – making it a versatile solution for the future of human spaceflight.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2026 !

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As we sat down to write this letter to you, we wonder again – how has another year passed so quickly?

This year has been full of traveling for the team, including the usual trips between Germany and Austria, as well as some further afield jaunts to Italy, Australia and even Mars. If you have a copy of our book you might be able to see that a lot of our work this year draws on some of the earliest concept designs we developed as LIQUIFER – deployable living spaces for space stations, crew quarter design and a Mars simulation. It is reassuring to trace the beginnings of these concepts in projects we completed over 10 years ago and see, with a growing team, how our knowledge and skills have developed and strengthened. With every year we learn more and do more, and now we get to see what we first understood to be important for astronauts in space being commissioned for a next-generation space station and for use by international astronauts. What we have been working towards and once dreaming of is what we are now working on! We look forward to what the next years have to bring, but for now will leave you with some of the projects we have been focusing on this year. Thanks as always for your support!
