Creativity and connection came together in a very special way for our Perth team! 🎨

Led by Sara Riches from JURAN Creative, the team participated in a collaborative Indigenous art workshop inspired by the Boodja (land) on which we work.

Incorporating colours from WGA's Reconciliation Action Plan, the group created a unique artwork that reflects place, community and shared experiences, with the finished piece set to be proudly displayed in our Perth office.

Art truly has a powerful way of bringing people together. A heartfelt thank you to Sara for guiding us through such a meaningful and memorable experience.

⚓Upgrading critical port infrastructure in Tasmania🚢

At the Port of Bell Bay, a major asset renewal is underway. Led by TasPorts, the new Bell Bay woodchip Shiploader will replace ageing infrastructure with a modern, fully mobile shiploader, while improving safety, efficiency and long-term operability.

WGA delivered structural, civil and electrical engineering designs for this next-generation system, one that performs multiple movement functions within an active wharf environment and still feels intuitive for operators.

We were proud to deliver a solution that balances complexity, safety and usability. Read more about the project: https://wga.com.au/projects/bell-bay-shiploader-replacement/

Some things just make more sense when you see them up close!👀

Meet Brady McNeil, a Graduate Mechanical Engineer in New South Wales, who recently swapped his desk for site gear at Port Waratah, one of Australia’s major bulk materials ports.

For Brady, visiting a working port for the first time was an eye-opener, not just because of the scale, but seeing everything that happens behind the scenes to keep operations (and the broader economy) moving!

As a grad, being on site has also helped him connect the dots between engineering on paper and how equipment and systems actually perform in the real world.

“Every site visit teaches you something different. It’s one of the best ways to see how engineering is applied in practice and the variety of problems engineers get involved in solving.”

It’s this real-world context that helps turn engineering thinking into practical solutions that work where it matters most.

Ever wondered what a typical day looks like for the people turning engineering concepts into reality?🖥️📐

At WGA, our drafters and designers are the driving force behind many of the award-winning projects we're proud to deliver.

They're the ones transforming concepts into buildable, detailed models, drawings, and documentation that make construction possible, helping our clients, partners, and communities create a better future.

We recently took a peek into a typical day in their life! Swipe to read ➡️

Fair warning: after taking a glimpse into their workdays, you'll discover that our designers have one thing in common... an impressive eye for detail and a healthy obsession with getting things just right. 😄

A walk through the garden became a journey through history🌿

As part of our NAIDOC Week activities, our Melbourne team joined the Aboriginal Heritage Walk at the Royal Botanic Gardens, led by an Indigenous guide, Aunty Sherry.

The experience offered valuable insights into the rich cultural history of the local Kulin Nation people, the significance of native plants, and the enduring connection Aboriginal communities have maintained with Country for thousands of years.

What many of us thought we knew about this much-loved garden was transformed through the stories Aunty Sherry shared.

From discovering the practical uses of native plants to gaining a deeper understanding of the landscape itself, the experience revealed a place rich with history, knowledge and cultural significance that the lands have endured for thousands of years.

It was a meaningful opportunity to listen, learn and strengthen our connection to Aboriginal culture and Country.

Where Introductions Spark Conversation, meet Ashlee Neale

A Principal Civil Designer with over 20 years of experience, Ashlee leads the Civil Design Team in Melbourne.

Ashlee’s career began in building design, but a brief exposure to civil design sparked a lasting passion. That early foundation in drafting and design continues to shape her approach today, giving her a strong understanding of the detail behind every decision and enabling her to lead with confidence.

She has a wealth of experience across transport, civic, health, commercial and maritime markets in Victoria and Tasmania.

However, what sets Ashlee apart is her strong technical acumen, exceptional leadership, and deep commercial understanding of the infrastructure space.

Great to have you with us at WGA, Ashlee!

Different perspectives, one shared goal, and a little friendly competition along the way!

Following the success of last year's event in Melbourne, the Architects vs Engineers Debate returned to our Brisbane office this year, bringing together industry leaders for another evening of insightful discussion and fun rivalry.

The verdict? The best outcomes don't come from one discipline alone, they come from collaboration. From concept to construction, architects and engineers are stronger together.💪
