Why Brandon Always Stand Behind MATES.

Some initiatives become more than just another program—they become personal. For CPP's Brandon Stewart, MATES is one of them.

“I believe deeply in the work MATES does. I make sure the program is delivered on every project I works on because every conversation matters, and every conversation has the potential to make a difference. My commitment comes from personal experience. In 2017, I lost my best friend, Rob, to su***de. That loss changed the way I see mental health, mateship and the importance of looking out for one another.”

MATES in Construction (Mates Actively Talking to Each Other on Site) is a mental health and su***de prevention program designed specifically for the construction industry.

The industry has made progress, but too many people still feel they need to carry their struggles alone.

It’s okay to not be okay.
It’s okay to ask for help.
And it’s okay to check in on a mate.

Together, we can create workplaces where everyone feels supported and no one has to struggle alone.

THE BIGGEST NIGHT IN PICKLEBALL HISTORY (probably)
Tamworth, NSW is famously known as the "Country Music Capital of Australia" — but these days it's got some competition, with the CPP Pickleball Challenge fast becoming just as legendary.
With the whole team working away from home, staying active and connected matters. When indoor cricket season wrapped up, site manager Peter Jefford asked the team what's next. Their answer: pickleball. Eight weeks and countless fierce games later, it all came down to finals night.

The highlights:
Pav finished 4th, then stayed on to help the umpire understand the rules — because he clearly needed it.
Jono was a no-show, felled by a stomach bug.
Undefeated all season, Pearso lost twice in one night — once to each Glenn brother. Two weeks away from F45 and clearly lacking the match fitness that carried him through his dominant season, allegedly.
That set up an all-Glenn grand final. Mitch showed no mercy, taking it 2-0 over brother James.

Behind the banter — this is what a great team culture looks like. A bit of rivalry, plenty of laughs, and people who show up for each other on and off the tools. Nice one, Peter, and great season, team.

Wonder what's next…

We're proud to share that Calala BESS has officially achieved MATES in Construction site accreditation! 🎉

The gold standard for any workplace in the program is to become a MATES Accredited Site. This accreditation is more than a milestone - it's a statement that mental health matters here, and that every worker counts.

This recognition reflects our team's genuine commitment to mental health and wellbeing on site — because looking after each other is just as important as looking after the job.

A big thank you to everyone on site who's helped build a culture where checking in on your mates is second nature.

MATES is built on a simple principle: Mates Actively Talking to Each Other on Site. Designed specifically for the construction industry, MATES is a mental health and su***de prevention program that encourages workers to look out for one another, start meaningful conversations and connect mates with the support they need.

At CPP, we're proud to support MATES in Construction because looking after our people goes beyond physical safety—it's about creating a workplace where everyone feels safe to speak up, check in and ask for help.

Every conversation matters.

Two Decades On: Celebrating 20 Years of Steve Drefke and Martin Walsh at CPP
On 31 July 2006, Steve Drefke and Martin Walsh walked through CPP's doors on the very same day, back when the company was a fraction of the size it is today. As CPP passes 800 employees, it's worth pausing on the fact that Martin was Employee #20 and Steve was Employee #21 — two of the earliest bricks in what's become a very large building. Twenty years on, both are still here, still delivering, and between them they've had a hand in almost everything CPP has built.

Discover more about their incredible journey.

A great couple of days for our CPP team at Supply Nation Connect 2026 in Perth. With this year’s theme of “Journey”, the event felt particularly relevant to our own journey in Western Australia.

Attending Connect gave our team the opportunity to meet and learn from a diverse range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and suppliers, understand their capabilities and explore potential opportunities to work together on current and upcoming projects.

For us, it’s about more than simply making connections. It’s about developing genuine, long-term relationships, understanding the local business landscape and creating opportunities to work with Indigenous businesses as our presence and capability in WA continues to grow.

The event was a valuable opportunity to listen, learn and connect with businesses who bring incredible experience, capability and expertise to the WA market. We came away with new conversations, new connections and a better understanding of the opportunities ahead.

As our journey in WA continues, we look forward to building on these relationships and seeing where they lead.

Thanks to Supply Nation for bringing everyone together.

Every Conversation Matters.

In construction, looking after each other doesn't stop with physical safety—it includes mental health too.

That's why CPP proudly supports MATES in Construction, a su***de prevention and mental health program built on the principle of Mates Actively Talking to Each Other on Site. The program empowers workers to recognise when a mate might be struggling, start meaningful conversations and connect people with the support they need.

The reality is confronting: construction workers are NINE times more likely to die by su***de than from a workplace accident.

Together, we can help change that by creating workplaces where it's okay to speak up, check in and ask for help.

If you notice someone isn't themselves, don't wait. Start the conversation. It could make all the difference.
