Don’t be gaslit by false claims about the gas industry’s tax contribution.
The facts are that the Australian gas industry:
• is Australia’s 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 corporate tax-paying sector
• paid $𝟮𝟭.𝟵 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 in taxes and royalties in 2024-25
Comparisons between beer excise and the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT) are misleading.
PRRT represents only a fraction of the gas industry’s significant tax contribution, and only applies to projects located in Commonwealth waters.
On top of PRRT, the gas industry also pays tens of billions of dollars a year in company tax, royalties and other charges – helping governments pay for schools, hospitals, roads and essential services.
