Putting our stamp of approval on Myrtle Bank, quite literally.

With the new slab poured, the footprint of the extension is now set and months of planning are beginning to take physical form.

The existing home has been carefully stripped back, ready for the next stage of its transformation into a considered family home built around the people who will live here.

The stencil will eventually be covered. The standard behind it wont be.

Renovation is rarely about starting again.

It’s about understanding what is already there — what deserves to stay, what needs to change, and how the new work can become part of the original home rather than simply being added to it.

Springfield is right in the middle of that process.

At this stage, the building is exposed enough that you can still clearly see the old and the new sitting alongside one another. Openings are changing, spaces are being reconsidered and the next version of the home is beginning to emerge.

Eventually, all of that work should feel obvious in hindsight.

Not because you can see where we intervened, but because the house simply feels like it was always meant to work that way.

The old and the new are starting to meet at Myrtle Bank.

The new extension took a significant step forward with the concrete slab poured.

It’s not the part of a home that will eventually appear in the finished photographs, but these early stages are where so much of the quality of a build is determined — set-out, services, reinforcement, levels and countless small details that need to be resolved before the concrete arrives.

Once it’s poured, most of that work disappears from view. That’s the point.

Good building is often about getting the things you’ll never see exactly right.

Last night we were honoured to attend the Childhood Cancer Association Gold Ribbon Gala and support the extraordinary work they do for children and families affected by childhood cancer.

We don’t often share the fundraising or causes we support. Much of it has always felt better kept in the background.

But this was a cause worth putting some attention behind.

When I started AP Designer Homes, one of my personal hopes was that we could build something that gave us the opportunity to support people and causes beyond our own work.

It’s something we’ve generally chosen to do quietly, and that will probably always be our preference. But occasionally there are causes worth using our platform to put a little more attention behind.

Through our work, we have the privilege of meeting so many people and families. Nights like last night are an important reminder that there are organisations doing extraordinary things for families facing circumstances most of us can barely imagine.

We were very grateful to be there, and proud to play a small part in supporting the Childhood Cancer Association and the work they continue to do.
