Construction has commenced on one of the most exciting retail developments in Port Adelaide under the banner of OneSMG Property. The 271 Commercial Road site will cost nearly $26m to complete with anchor tenants confirmed as Pet Stock, Supercheap Auto, Anaconda and Revo Fitness.
Originally located at 171 – 271 Commercial Road Port Adelaide, Smiths of Port Adelaide was acquired from the Smith Family in 1987 by Hans Ehmann, who partially redeveloped the site into commercial office space, consolidating the dealership into its current position at 271 Commercial Road, combining both new and used cars into a single site. The 10,275sqm site, is fondly remembered as the home of Smiths of Port Adelaide, later Smiths Holden.
Construction of the site is being delivered in partnership with Mossop Construction & Interiors with a focus on sustainable development aspects such permeable paving for water-sensitive urban design, efficient glazing to optimize natural light, and a Colorbond Surfmist roof sheeting for thermal performance. The centre will have parking for 158 vehicles and will incorporate landscaped pedestrian pathways, creating a welcoming interface between the built environment and the surrounding streetscape.
“This historically significant site for OneSMG has now entered a new phase of renewal and we are reinstating it as a landmark site in the Port Adelaide community,” explained Hans Ehmann, Managing Director of OneSMG.
“The tenants we are introducing to the centre will offer the Port Adelaide and surrounding communities easy access to some of Australia’s most popular retail brands and will add significant economic vibrancy and employment to the surrounding area,” added Mr. Ehmann.
This new precinct will sit alongside broader revitalisation efforts within Port Adelaide by One SMG Property, contributing to the area’s evolution as a vibrant, mixed-use destination for residents, businesses and visitors alike.
Estimated completion is February 2027.
