While completing new ceiling fans, power points and Beacon Lighting wall sconces at this Coromandel Valley home, we identified an older switchboard with outdated Type AC safety switches.
We explained the difference between the existing Type AC protection and current Type A RCDs, which provide improved protection for today’s electronic appliances. We also outlined the AS/NZS 3000 Amendment 2 change that prohibits the installation of new Type AC RCDs from 30 April 2023.
The homeowners were already aware that a switchboard upgrade was on their to-do list following previous electrical work. After discussing the safety and long-term benefits, they chose to upgrade—bringing the home’s electrical protection up to a modern standard and providing greater peace of mind.
