What’s in a Name?

Many people have asked me what 34MJ means, its defiantly not 34 Michale Jordans as my kids suggest. Its Thirty-four Megajoules and amount of energy, this is what happens when you get an engineer to pick a name.

What it means is the energy surplus from one litre of biodiesel after the energy for making it through our system is removed.

Energy in Fuel – Energy to make fuel = 34MJ

If we look at it a different way, for on farm production of fuel using our system, the equivalent use of 1L of biodiesel can generate 6L in return, this includes planting, harvesting and processing it all into fuel.

On the contrary the equivalent 1L of diesel generates 1.2L of fuel, as the excavation, mining and refining all take huge amounts of energy. This is something that is not talked about, so much energy and carbon emissions go into our fuel that we thought was cheap.

By switching to renewable fuels, it doesn’t only directly replace the fuel you are switching out but all the other fuel sources along the supply chain.
