Best wishes to all of our customers and suppliers for a safe and Happy Easter.
Today our Managing Director, David Shipway, continued his tradition of dropping off 10 dozen Hot Cross Buns to the residents of Balyana Residential Services at Clapham.
Balyana has been the residential arm of Bedford Industries for over 50 years, providing supported living services to roughly 60 residents at a time.
BL Shipway's relationship with Balyana started over 30 years ago, when they took in former longstanding BL Shipway employee Rex Hocking, who had limited housing options, and no remaining family support network.
Thus began a tradition of David dropping off Hot Cross Buns at Easter, hams at Christmas, and donations of TVs, furniture and other things to keep Rex and his fellow residents entertained. This has continued long after Rex moved to an aged care facility a number of years ago.
Such generosity culminated in David being named an Honorary Life Member of Bedford Industries in 2024, as noted in the link below.
Sadly, the Balyana facility will be closing later this year, making this David's final drop-off there. Nevertheless, the residents and staff of Balyana were thrilled to receive this year's goodies.
Thankyou to the The Village Baker (South Rd, Black Forest) for their magnificent Hot Cross Buns, and to Cimarosti Bros Colonel Light Meats (Goodwood Rd, Daw Park) for their terrific hams at Christmas time. Get around both of these local businesses, they are sensational.
