President Obama's Better Buildings Initiative set quite a few goals for improving energy efficiency in commercial buildings, which consume over 20 percent of all energy in the United States. By investing in clean energy technologies, the goal of the Better Buildings Initiative is to achieve a 20 percent improvement in energy efficiency by 2020 through cost-effective energy efficiency upgrades.

A look at how this sector will evolve in the U.S. by the end of the decade in view of President Barack Obama's Better Buildings Initiative.

40 years ago 4 out of 5 Chinese people were peasant farmers living off the land, today more people in China live in cities and towns than rural areas. By 2030 it is predicted that China alone will have 221 cities of over 1 million residents, which when compared to the fact that Europe currently has only 35 such million-plus cities this poses many challenges and opportunities for urban planning and living in the years to come.
