From the designer herself Jana Home: Our Paperbark Cottage shot by for - we are so thrilled it’s been chosen as their house of the month, what an honour.
With our renovation and extension, we focused on opening up our connection to the tree canopy, maximizing cross ventilation, light (with a southern orientation), storage, flexible spaces & enhancing functionality in a small footprint.
We wanted old to blend with new in a way that respected its heritage but felt contemporary and gave us some much needed practicality.
We wanted it to be robust and to not feel like we had to be precious with it, with two kids who love to be barefoot and all of us traipsing in sand. To me a home being practical will always outweigh aesthetic decisions but you can find a balance and find your unique perspective. 🤍
