Fantastic to see our Aboriginal flag back freely in the hands of everyone. Creator, Harold Thomas, a Luritja activist and artist, created the flag in 1971 as a symbol of unity and pride, as relevant then as it is today.

Across Australia JNC Group are celebrating NAIDOC - Heal County! 🖤💛❤️

The 2021 National NAIDOC Poster, ‘Care for Country’ was designed by Gubbi Gubbi artist Maggie-Jean Douglas. The 21-year-old artist said her first thoughts on hearing the 2021 theme ‘Heal Country’ was about how country has cared for and healed First Nations people in all senses of the meaning for so long. She said, “I wanted to create an artwork that told that story and made me hopeful for what’s to come in future years”.

Using the 2021 NAIDOC Week theme, Heal Country!, as inspiration; ‘Care for Country’ is a bright and vibrant artwork which explores how Country has cared for and healed First Nations people spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially and culturally. The artwork includes communities, people, animals and bush medicines spread over different landscapes of red dirt, green grass, bush land and coastal areas to tell the story of the many ways Country can and has healed us throughout our lives and journeys.

Happy NAIDOC ❤️💛🖤 The 2020 national poster is a powerful work, ‘Shape of Land’ by Noongar and Saibai Islander man Tyrown Waigana.

Tyrown’s artwork tells the story of how the Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. It is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal land.
