PLASTIC SHRINKAGE
A must read for all concretors

Good bye Winter , hello spring ❤️💐

You may get sick of this annual reminder but we don’t as we see it time and time again

As we enter into the warmer months and the weather warms up and strong winds are present , history shows that from September through to December these are the most likely months for plastic shrinkage to occur in concrete .
Plastic shrinkage is when cracks occur in the concrete surface of freshly placed concrete as its curing .
Cracks form when the surface has set before the concrete as a whole has set .
Cracks are generally not near the edges .
The concrete bleed water has evaporated before the concrete base has set .
Proven conditions that exacerbate concrete shrinkage are higher temperatures , low humidity and high winds . The use of barriers , aliphatic alcohol , wetted hessian blankets and spray mist can reduce this .
BE EXTRA CAREFUL if using higher mpa strengths of concrete and dark oxides .

Better late than never . A massive happy 21st birthday to our son Darcy who celebrated this special occasion on the weekend . Darcy is one of our qualified diesel mechanics who always puts in an amazing effort to get the jobs done and to a very high standard. As well as all the mechanical work he is also a very talented welder completing the many tasks required . Well done Darcy , we carnt thank you enough to all you do .
