WE BLOODY DID IT!!! ❤

We're still trying to find the words for just how much this means to us!

To stand together as a family and a team, more than 40 years after DW Controls first began, and hear our name called not once, but twice… it’s a feeling we’ll never forget.

There was pride. There were a few tears. And there was an overwhelming sense of gratitude for every person who has played a part in getting us here.

We are incredibly proud and humbled to have been named winners of both the Family Business Award, proudly sponsored by C.E. Bartlett Pty Ltd, and the Innovation Award, proudly sponsored by Gawk Outdoor, at the 2026 Federation University Australia Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards.

For a business that began in Ballarat in 1982, these two awards feel particularly special.

Family is where our story began. Innovation is what continues to drive us forward.

More than 40 years and three generations later, to be recognised for both feels like a celebration of everything DW Controls has been, everything it has become, and everything we’re working so hard to build for the future.

These trophies may have our name on them, but they belong to so many people.

To our incredible team, past and present — thank you. Your hard work, knowledge, loyalty and willingness to keep pushing forward have shaped DW Controls into the business it is today.

To our customers, suppliers, families and everyone who has trusted, supported and believed in us over the years — you are part of this story too.

Our sincere thanks to Commerce Ballarat for continuing to champion our local business community and for creating such a prestigious event.

To C.E. Bartlett Pty Ltd, Gawk Outdoor, and all of the other sponsors, judges and people behind the Business Excellence Awards — thank you for making this celebration possible.

And to every other finalist and winner — congratulations.

To stand alongside so many remarkable Ballarat businesses was an honour in itself.

We walked into the night already proud of how far we’d come.

We walked out with two awards and an even greater appreciation for the people who helped us get here.

From one generation to the next, we couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve built together.

And we’re just getting started!!

Well done team great way to start the night.

We thought it was time to reintroduce ourselves! 👋🏼

We are DW Controls — a family-owned and operated electrical engineering and manufacturing business, proudly based in Ballarat.

Our story began in 1982, when Tony White founded DW Controls from his home garage.

More than 40 years later, that small electrical business has grown across three generations into a team specialising in complex power systems, generator integration and synchronisation, custom switchboards, electrical engineering and automation — supported by our own fabrication and powder coating capabilities.

But DW Controls has never just been about what we build. It’s about the people who have built it.

Our family, our team, our customers, our suppliers and everyone who has backed us along the way have all played a part in shaping the business we are today.

There have been challenges, risks, lessons, long days, big ideas and plenty of change. But through it all, one thing has remained constant — a willingness to keep learning, keep evolving and keep asking, “How can we do this better?”

That mindset has taken us from traditional electrical work to complex power and generator systems, advanced automation and, most recently, the development and integration of hydrogen generation technology.

From a Ballarat garage in 1982 to exploring what the future of power generation could look like, we’re incredibly proud of how far this family business has come — and even more excited about where it’s heading.

If you’re new here, welcome to DW Controls!

A proud moment for the entire DW Controls team!

We’re incredibly honoured to be recognised as a finalist in the Federation University Australia Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards – Gawk Outdoor Innovation Award.

While innovation might start with an idea, bringing that idea to life takes a whole team. It takes people willing to problem-solve, learn, adapt, back new ideas and keep pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve.

This recognition belongs to every person who has played a part in that journey — our team, our customers, our suppliers and everyone who continues to support DW Controls.

To be recognised for innovation in the region we’ve proudly called home for more than 40 years makes it even more special.

Thank you to Commerce Ballarat, the judges and award sponsors for the recognition, and congratulations to all of this year’s finalists.
We’re very proud to be among you.

Bring on the 27th of August! 🏆

Big week in coating this week!

We've been pushing through a large batch of heavy-duty brackets for a cable and pipe support systems company - each weighing in at 30-40kg - which has definitely tested the team and our process.

To keep things moving efficiently (and safely), we have designed and fabricated some custom racks to handle the weight and streamline the blasting stage. This allowed us to maintain consistency while improving throughput across the entire run.

From raw product to blasting, degassing, coating, curing and final packaging - it's been a full in-house process with a strong focus on quality, compliance and handling.

Always proud to see a job go from bare steel to fully finished and ready for delivery.

This is only the beginning of this project, so stay tuned to see what we're producing in weeks to come!

A new era of power has arrived at DW Controls.

Our hydrogen generator has arrived, and we’re moving closer to redefining what reliable, low-emissions, grid-forming power looks like in Australia.

This week we completed a batch of 600 Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) coated backing rings for a regular customer — a great example of how critical protective coatings are in water infrastructure.

What is FBE Coating?
Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) is a thermoset powder coating applied to pre-heated steel. The heat causes the powder to melt, flow, and chemically bond to the surface, creating a tough, uniform barrier that becomes part of the steel itself.

FBE is widely used in:
✔ Potable water pipelines and fittings
✔ Water treatment facilities
✔ Buried or submerged infrastructure
✔ Corrosion protection in aggressive environments

It provides exceptional:
• Corrosion resistance
• Adhesion and impact strength
• Long-term durability
• Protection against moisture ingress and contaminants

When components are destined for potable water systems, coating processes must meet strict Australian Standard requirements for surface preparation, application control, cure parameters, and coating integrity — ensuring the finished product is safe, compliant, and built for decades of service.

From controlled blasting profiles to monitored cure temperatures and coating thickness verification, every step is about performance you can’t see — but communities rely on every day.

Another solid week delivering infrastructure-ready solutions!
