Every landfill has to deal with leachate.

The challenge is what happens after it builds up.

A lot of the traditional options involve trucking it away, storing it, or sending it somewhere else for treatment. The immediate problem disappears, but the leachate still exists. It's just been moved.

That's never sat right with us.

At BLR Tech, we've taken a different approach. Our treatment system is designed to treat leachate where it's generated, using a proven biological process that works with nature instead of relying on energy intensive treatment or ongoing disposal.

It's practical. It's been proven. And it gives landfill operators another option besides simply managing an ever growing volume of leachate.

LEACHATE (noun)
Pronunciation: LEE-chayt

Definition: A contaminated liquid produced when water passes through waste material, soil, or other porous substances and extracts dissolved or suspended pollutants.
Commonly generated at landfills, composting facilities, and contaminated industrial sites, leachate may contain heavy metals, ammonia, organic compounds, PFAS, pathogens, oils, and other hazardous substances.

Leachate is typically dark brown to black in colour, often thick, murky, or oily in consistency, and characterised by a strong sour, chemical, or sewage-like odour.

Example:
“Untreated leachate can pose serious risks to groundwater and surrounding ecosystems.”
