If you're building or renovating in Victoria, Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) is a crucial protection for homeowners.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐁𝐈?
DBI provides cover if your builder cannot complete the work or fix defects due to insolvency, death, or disappearance.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐁𝐈 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝?
For residential projects over $16,000, builders must take out DBI on behalf of the homeowner before work begins.

𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐁𝐈?
In Victoria, the VMIA (Victorian Managed Insurance Authority) is the sole provider of DBI. Builders purchase the policy, but it's for the homeowner's benefit.Before your build starts, ensure your builder has arranged DBI - it’s your safety net.
