At Tomaree Homes we look at the design of your home from a holistic view; how it works individually, for you and your family, with passive principles laying the foundation for the overall design. This ensures a home that can deliver a lifetime of thermal comfort, low energy bills and low greenhouse gas emissions. 📉

⁠Elements of Passive Design:

🔹 Climate Zone – building for the climate zone the home is located in. There are 8 different zones in Australia.
🔹 Passive Solar Heating – maximising winter sun and keeping it inside the building.
🔹 Passive Cooling – air movement, evaporative cooling and thermal mass cooling techniques.
🔹 Orientation – placing the home on the site in a way that takes advantage of the environment including sun, wind and landscape.
🔹 Thermal Mass – the absorption and heat energy storing capacity of a material for energy efficiency.
Insulation – holds heat in winter and cools in summer.
🔹 Glazing – improve thermal performance by up to 87% with glazed windows and doors.
🔹 Shading – through the use of plants, shutters, awnings and eaves thermal comfort can be maximised year-round.
🔹 Skylights – Minimise glare or heat by using a skylight as a source of natural light.
🔹 Ventilation – control airflow by sealing your home and reducing unwanted air leaks.
